How to Save Money at Riverview Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Figueroa never disappoints! Our three Shih Tzus just turned 10 months old and they were due for their semi-annual check-ups. When I made the appointment a couple of weeks ago, I was told that if I didn’t have any questions or concerns that we could skip this visit and they’d still fill our heart worm & flea prevention meds for us. How nice of them to give us the option. However, I wouldn’t miss an opportunity to see Dr. Figueroa, if I can help it. She is so beautiful inside and out! (I’ll add that no one looks as good as she does in a pair of scrubs either! 😁💕) All jokes aside, my pups absolute adore her too, and it’s good practice for them (as puppies) to come to the office, even if it’s just to get weighed. It helps them to get familiar with the office, staff and getting held and handled, poked and prodded etc. That way they’ll continue to be such good boys at the doctor’s office as they get older. ☺️ Today’s visit was short and sweet! No sitting in the waiting room, (they always have a room ready for us when we arrive). The office was clean (as usual) and the receptionist was kind and professional. Everyone always treats us like celebrities, and today was no different. They spoiled all of our pups with hugs, treats and attention. I swear this place is like a home away from home for my boys. They love this office and are bursting with excitement as soon as we pull into the parking lot. That makes me feel so relieved and happy too, knowing my boys are comfortable and in very good and capable hands. Thanks again, Dr. Figueroa! We love you!!! ❤️❤️❤️

I have to give a shout out to the Riverview veterinary hospital. Their staff, their vet techs, and everyone involved in daisies care have been absolutely amazing. She has 2 more cold laser treatments left on her shoulder in hopes that this heals her. But man look at my baby and how cute she is sportin those goggles.

Heather was my technician. She was absolutely phenomenal with my dog. My dog is very hyper and doesn’t do well with shots. He had issues at his last vet so I decided to switch him. I will always go here from now on. They did the shots in front of me and my dog was just wagging his tail staying still while heather held him. I never see him that call in an appointment and he didn’t leave all worked up the way he would from the last vet place. I’m definitely loyal to this hospital now because of heathers handling. If you have a hyped dog, this is the place to be. Also I love that they gave me an estimate before beginning anything. Times are hard with money and they were very helpful about it.

The vet here lied to me about my cats behavior. He wouldn't let me be present during his examination. He took her to "the back room" something I specifically said I didn't want done. Then came back and said my gentle kitty bit him and she had to be sedated for him to do anything. I took her and left. She was terrified. It took me 2 days to be able to take her someplace else. When I took her to a new vet there were no issues. I was allowed to be present, all kinds of tests were done, and she never even hissed at anyone. I won't be back here again.
