How to Save Money at Kelly's Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We love Dr. Kelly!! My husband and I have a 4 month old Great Dane named Krueger and we were originally drawn to this place because we had heard that the vet had two of his own. Knowing the health issues Great Danes are prone to, we felt safe taking Krueger to someone who has a personal connection to the breed. Scheduling our first appointment was so easy; the staff was so kind. The actual place is super clean and has an overall pleasant vibe. Krueger instantly loved Dr. Kelly and we appreciated how thorough he was during our visit- he took the time to answer all of our questions and never made us feel rushed like some other vets do. He truly made us feel respected and told us we were doing a great job with our puppy and that really meant the world to us. We have seen him a few more times for routine visits and every single one has been a joy. We will be scheduling his neuter appointment soon and we plan on staying with Dr. Kelly for the entirety of Krueger’s life. We also have three cats we plan on bringing in for check ups soon. We are so grateful to have found such a caring vet in Port Saint Lucie :)

The staff at the front desk, the techs and the Doctor were all friendly and professional with my pet and with me. I have another dog and a cat that I will definitely be taking to Kelly's Animal Hospital, as well. They informed me of all my options with Doug's issue and helped him get diagnosed properly and treated properly. Doctor Kelly was thorough, compassionate and gentle with Doug. I would highly recommend Kelly's Animal Hospital to anyone that wants the best care they can get.

Dr Kelly and his staff are doing God's work! Professional and compassionate. You can feel the love from them towards all of the animals that they care for. Dr Kelly did a very difficult operation on my daughter's guinea pig Henry and saved his life. He treated him like a human with love and compassion. I can't say enough nice things about them. From the first time we spoke to Dr Kelly we knew we were in good hands. I highly recommend Dr Kelly and his wonderful staff to anyone seeking the best care for their pets and loved animals. Give them a visit, you will be glad you did!

I am very sorry to write this review, but I have to tell my honest opinion and experience. I went Friday after a girl who works there Jenna was super sweet and I thought this was a good place to be for my Kitty… I have a 7 month old Persian who needs to be spay… I have to tell that everything there was not right… starting to tell that Dr Kelly suggestions, questions and talking cold about pets wasn’t already a good signal… he even told me he Declawed his own cats😱… I don’t even know why that it’s not banned in Florida since everyone knows this it’s a frustration and a horrible procedure to cats.. also they took my kitty away for blood work … I heard her screaming … I don’t understand why was in this way … he came saying they couldn’t find her veins they even forced to do it couple of times… and even suggested was ok and normal …I have been trying to develop trust with the new Kitty and she was so friendly and happy … she came home with black and blue legs, she use to let me to brush now she screams, today after 3 days she was scared of people … sorry but this it’s not a right way to practice and I will definitely NOT going back … I am hurt since he charged $192 and it’s says in the bill $114 of that it’s for the pet check up.. the only thing I saw he did was touching her and gets swaps in her ears … and the blood work … she is a kitty everyone was telling me never heard of that much for just that … in general I am frustrated and super sad I went there and got disappointed… I wish Dr Kelly and staff good luck I am not here to hurt anyone, but I don’t understand this way to treat our beloved furry CHILD!.. I had to ask for opinion in. Persian cats community and even Vets made comments that this wasn’t right … again I am so sad I went there and experienced this. PS - as to respond to you … I don’t know the lady you are referring to as “my friend”… also I am not here to hurt anyone I am talking about MY experience… my Kitty got hurt and then I was charged for that 👎🏼 my Kitty is signed as EAS Emotional Animal Support and today she is scared and don’t let people to touch her, she wasn’t like that before going there and everyone knows that … also still TODAY SHE can’t make noises she is obviously with hurt throat, if she wasn’t screaming then did you put something in her throat? .. you said I had questions about declawing NOT TRUE… I NEVER ASKED about that, you started and I got even scared of the question …I don’t understand !… it’s obvious that my experience it’s the worst but I am not here to hurt you or anyone else … Good luck and do your best! But I have witness and my part it’s real!
