How to Save Money at Forest Hill Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

As a former vet staff worker at multiple clinics/hospitals, I can honestly say this staff is incredible. You’re always greeted with kindness and they treat your animals with a lot of love! My dog absolutely loves Ted and he makes our experience so easy and delightful.

My experience with this Vet has been great so far, I took all of my animals there. I never had a problem, and I am sure some people have but nobody is perfect and things happen. The staff is sweet and the DR. cares for the animals. I am moving out of state and I will sure miss them.

If you want your beloved pet to die and nobody to care about it, be sure to bring them to Forest Hill Animal Hospital on South Congress Avenue. I’ve brought my pets here for years, and even recommended them to others, although I have to say that one of my friends warned me about them after one of their visits. I wish I would have listened to them. You never know how good a place is until there’s a problem, then the truth surfaces, which is exactly what happened to me. My cat had been hiding under the bed and didn’t seem to be quite himself. I took him to the vet who explained, “he’s perfectly healthy except he just needs to have his ears cleaned. They’re clogged up with something that seems to have hardened. We did our best to clean them out but give him these eardrops to soften it and bring him back.” Unfortunately, immediately after that visit, his health began to immediately deteriorate. When I took him for his follow up, they did blood work, which came back showing that he was healthy. They suggested I take him to a neurologist. (???!!) His health continued to deteriorate rapidly. I ended up taking him to an emergency clinic one Saturday, where they determined he had a bad inner ear infection and they put him on steroids and antibiotics. He wasn’t showing signs of significant improvement. A friend suggested I see her vet, who was able to determine that his eardrum had been punctured, which caused the inner ear infection and other multiple issues. It was decided that he needed a CT Scan to determine exactly what damage was done to his inner ear and how it needed to be treated. The vet suggested I reach out to the vet who punctured his eardrum, which I did. No response was received from the 4 emails I sent marked “urgent.” I mentioned the importance of this cat because I lost my son and only child last year and this cat had proven to be very therapeutic while grieving the loss of my son. (No condolences from them, not even once). I finally reached the office manager who laughed at me and said, “if you think we’re going to file a claim with our insurance company and admit that we’ve done anything wrong, that’s not going to happen,” and he laughed again. He was aggressively manipulative and controlling with the conversation. It was highly unprofessional and very uncomfortable and intimidating, all to avoid discussing the truth. I set up a gofundme to try to raise the money for the CT Scan, but it was too late. My cat, Boobers, died this past Friday. He was one of the loves of my life and was only between 4 and 5 years old. I was shocked at the arrogance and the magnitude of inability to care. There was no reason for my cat to die, but because they chose not to do the right thing, he did. He can never be replaced. I would never recommend Forest Hill Animal Hospital, not even to my worst enemy. One of the worst experiences of my life. How I regret ever going there. Just hope you never have a problem because if you do, they will not accept responsibility nor will they feel they should be held accountable for any mistake they make. I found an excellent, caring vet, surrounded by a very caring team at the Healing Arts Veterinarian Center on Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. Just a little further drive, but oh so worth the DIFFERENCE! They actually care about your pet, and they care about you. Far superior to Forest Hill Animal Hospital. No comparison. Night and day difference. You won’t have to live with regrets like I do. They know and understand the true meaning of customer service, unlike Forest Hill Animal Hospital.

Been going there for years. Great Dr and personnel. There all about the animals and not looking into how they could pad the bill like other veterinarians. Very honest
