How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My wonderful, active, lively puppy died 2am 24 August as he slept. He had af appointment with this place on 21 August. Please do your homework about this place. I can't cancel my account now that my puppy is dead and I cant seen to be able to talk anybody, other than billing, to discuss my loss and no one to be accountable fit what happened to Dusty. I came to the hospital and all they told me was someone will be calling me, well nothing yet.

2 weeks ago I made an apt with the office because my dog was sick and throwing up. When our apt finally came we went in the room and I spent 2 mins giving symptoms and the story of what was going on. The vet tech gave me a quote of $780 bill before the vet even saw him. I asked for a piece of mind. I wanted the vet to just take his temp and see if they really saw the need for all that or if he just needed some chix and rice for a few days. Instead she got rude with me and said my dog can’t “skip the line because the wait is a 3 hour drop off”. 3 hour drop off for my dog to get his tempature taken? This is disgusting. I have been coming here for 10 years between all my animals. They had an excuse with Covid soft drop offs and now they’re taking advantage. I pay $50+ a MONTH and they REFUSED treatment in my dog. They called the next day with the audacity to ask if he was okay. And when I said that I wanted dr seiler to call me so I can talk with him because the office is refusing my dog. They called back and said they had an apt 2 weeks from that day. I didn’t talk to the dr. I am not going to bring my dog back 2 weeks later from an upset stomach. Dr seiler also turned away another dog of minethat had to be put down because he was very sick and they refused his service also. They said the office “was booked”. This place is a sad excuse for a vet. More like a money hole without empathy.

I used to be well pleased with Banfield. You have to leave your pet for hours and don't even get to see our talk with the vet. At least not at this location. It's difficult to get an appointment. When my dog was sick they couldn't see her for a week. I waited a long time to pick up my pet after being told she was ready.

We are visiting from out of country and forgot our dogs allergy meds (it was snowing when we left)!. We called another vet before we found Banfield and they were not helpful at all!. When we called Banfield everyone from who answered the phone to who greeted us when we arrived to the vet tech were so wonderful. They originally wanted us to leave our Standard Poodle for a couple of hours, which we were not comfortable with, so they asked us to come back in 45 minutes. When we returned she was done and we had our usual meds she is used to taking. Would highly recommend and would definitely return if needed. Wonderful experience. Gotta love Florida weather with a dog!! May says THANK YOU!
