How to Save Money at GoodVets Fish Hawk

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Always great visits here! I recently got a kitty and needed a new vet for our dog since we relocated. We live just 5 to 10 minutes down the street and figured this would be a good option. Upon arriving to GoodVets the online process and paperwork was super easy. Entering inside the lobby it was very clean and they even have a snacks and refreshments area. I opted for the drop off visit for the cat and everything went smoothly. They even called me to go over all the details. I’ve since done three different follow ups and now is our primary vet for our dog and cat! Carmen at the front desk is literally amazing!!! If only every vet office could have a Carmen, she is so nice and personable even remembering us every time! The vet is super nice and knowledgeable as well! I will continue to come back here. Thank you so much good vets!

I’m gunna say, this is beyond 5 stars review. I brought my dog in to be put down, which was tough to do. Every staff member made me feel like it was their dog that was being put down. The compassion was all I needed at the time and I couldn’t have asked for more from this team. I thank them all for helping Brian leave this world in peace. You will be remembered. Carmen’s ability to talk me through this tough time over the phone was the reason I ended up choosing Good Vets and I can’t thank her enough.

We are extremely satisfied with Good Vets. The office is immaculate and the receptionist and technicians are friendly and professional. The vet explains everything she is doing with our dogs and is gentle with them. We are happy we have chosen Good Vets Fishhawk to care for our puppies.

I took my dog Luffy in since he has an ear infection. The office appeal was very nice and clean and the staff were very welcoming. Carmen was very nice and helpful as soon as I entered the clinic. Luffy loved his visit with Dr.Mercado and Amber. Dr. Mercado was very knowledgeable and was patient with explaining concisely. Would highly recommend this vet clinic to others!

I can’t say enough good things about GoodVets! Our dog went from having (what looked like) having a small, pink bug bite on her muzzle, to having a large lesion by midnight. We assumed it was a scratch she had become infected, and took her to her regular vet the next day for a checkup and antibiotics. By the weekend, when the small pink “bites” started spreading, we started getting worried. Luna was able to get an appointment on a Saturday afternoon, Dr. Mercado contacted our regular vet’s office, and she took a lot of time looking over Luna, listening to everyone (including my teenagers’) account of how this came about. She was scheduled for a biopsy that Monday, let my daughter who has an interest in veterinary medicine help take a the specimen of the coating of her wound. She was even invited to check it out under the microscope, and take a picture with her phone. A biopsy was scheduled for that Monday. I had a trip scheduled for work the very next day, and when Luna proved to be a challenge for my teens, Dr. Mercado and the team were super supportive, switched up Luna’s meds, and helped get the situation under control. By the time I returned on Thursday, Luna was well on her way to recovery. We’re still waiting for the biopsy results, but feel sure that it will confirm the diagnosis Dr. Mercado suspected that first visit, and feel sure she’s in good hands. To know that not only my Luna, but my daughters were in good hands while I was away gave me so much peace—I am so grateful to the team at Good Vets! 100 stars (because 5 isn’t enough) and I highly recommend!
