How to Save Money at Cleveland Heights Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I want to thank Dr Washburn and the staff for the loving care of my 7yr old cat Bing on Mon July 24th. Thank you for not giving up on him and taking steps to make him better. Bing had not eaten for 6 days and was vomiting a lot. For being an indoor cat we have no idea what made him sick except he was playing with a tiny toad a few days before he became ill. He is not known to get into stuff at all. With the tests, fluids given, antibiotic, naseau injection and the kindness and love 2 days later he is eating a little. I called a t 7am Mon. he was seen at 10am. Thank you all so much. Linda and Bing Clawsby

What a wonderful experience we had! My pup was really struggling with skin allergies, and we were able to get a quick appointment the same day that I called in! The staff and doctor were extremely kind and accommodating! The friendly atmosphere made our visit so relaxing, and this made such an impact on me, I will continue to use Cleveland Heights for all of my pets needs!! 🙏🏻

Thank you to everyone who works at this wonderful clinic, each of the vets and also the assistants! We thought we may have to put our dog to sleep because of his inability to walk both hind & front legs. Each of the assistants (April, Krista, etc) were so gracious & helpful, got me in right away and made me feel heard and important. Dr Langston was so thorough and kind. He was so helpful & patient with all my tears, concerns & questions. He went out of his way to figure out how to help our dog. We were able to take our dog home with hope. We are truly thankful for this clinic!

Today I had an urgent issue with a kitten and the whole Team quickly sprang into action and helped the kitten while putting me at ease. I live on the North Side but this location was the closest at the time and I am now thinking of changing all my Vet needs to this lovely place. The distance would be so worth the excellent care and I will now recommend them to anyone that needs any pet care. They by far outshine other Lakeland Vets. Thank you, Thank you for your amazing service.

Worst vet in Lakeland!! Not only are they outrageously overpriced, the staff is egotistical, and doesn’t take the time to slow down and properly care for the animals. I run a Service Dog organization with 10-15 dogs in the program. I use many vets in the area, and have been working with dogs for almost 20 years…I know a good vet when I see them, and CH is not it! I’ve had many bad experiences with Cleveland Heights but today was the last straw. We have a service dog in training that went for shots as part of their puppy package. They took him to the back room, and he came out with a bandage on his foot because they cut his nail quick. Instead of properly inspecting his nails and realizing that I recently trimmed them, the vet tech just started clipping because nail trim is part of the package (they never asked if we wanted the nails trimmed, or the last time they’d been cut). I completely understand accidents happen, but instead of admitting fault, a different tech brought him back in the room and said “he doesn’t like his paws to be touched”. Not only did they put the blame on the dog, they also lied about his “sensitive paws” because I trimmed his nails 2 days ago and he almost fell asleep! Now they have turned a confident service dog candidate into a pup that is fearful of the vet.. and rightfully so! No discount, antibiotics, or authentic apology was given.. instead a healthy pup went in and an injured pup came out. Also want to reiterate how disgustingly overpriced they are. Call around to local vets to price compare, they are 3 to 5 times more expensive. Some people attribute high prices to quality care, that’s not the case at this vet; they’re mediocre at best. I highly recommend TLC Petsnip, New Life Veterinary and Orchid Springs in Winter Haven! Stay away from Cleveland Heights!!
