How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We trusted Banfield to help our animal in case she gets sick. We have a monthly plan with the Clinic for over 5 years. Gladie started struggling very badly showing UTI symptoms. She had it once before and we knew what was going on right away. We needed to start her on antibiotic urgently. In case you are not familiar with a UTI in a cat. It's and extreme frequency, urgency and pain with urination. It's a true punishment! Cats think that finding a new place to urinate will help them release symptoms, so they start urinating everywhere: your brand new sofa, your 5 gran mattress, your rugs, your carpet, your chairs...you name it. We had to pull and move all of the rugs, cover all furniture, lock rooms with carpet and still keep a close eye on the animal when she gets a 5 minute break and gets out of the restroom where she is locked until she is clear of symptoms. Cat is in pain and in shock. House is a complete disaster. Owners are frustrated and exhausted. Banfield told us to leave Gladie at the clinic for the day, which we did. In the end of the day they called us and told that they had problem collecting a urine sample. I understand that things don't always go as planned. Before picking up Gladie after work, I begged Dr. Caballero to give us antibiotic start helping with symptoms. Dr. Caballero refused to provide us with any medication until she has a urine sample, which again, clinic couldn't collect even though our pet spent the entire day there. Basically, they returned our cat back saying they can't do anything, they CAN'T help her. We had no choice but to bring her home without being able to help her in any way. We simply left her to her struggles locked in the restroom alone, peeing everywhere, and crying the entire night... Then we had to put poor cat through the stress of being in the hospital 2nd day to only find out she needed that antibiotic I asked about (Surprise!)... Please understand, we heavily rely on you for immediate help. If we as people and as professionals stop making sound decisions driven by common sense, there is no value to us and to work we do. Dr. Caballero failed us by refusing to help our animal, by making no attempt to lighten her pain and symptoms. We had to bring Gladie back in next morning. Our animal is scarred to death of new environments and of new people. These two days in the clinic were a nightmare for her! I'd love to ask, is this how you see yourself helping? Is this how you see your role as a vet and as a vet clinic? You refused to provide poor animal with a very much needed help and you didn't even make an attempt to release her symptoms. That's all we needed. This why we came to you... When we were picking up Gladie in the end of the second day and received her medication, vet tech told us to give 1st dose of antibiotic when we get home (It was after 6 PM and we dropped Gladdie off at the clinic in the morning.) I asked if they already gave her 1st dose of medication and I was told that they DID NOT. Please, what's wrong with you? Why you didn't even try to help our poor animal? You already had U/A results that you needed. Why antibiotic wasn't given to our animal immediately? We are extremely disappointed with BANFIELD and with Dr. Caballero-Quinones. They have FAILED us and our sweet little pet. If your pet needs help, look for vets who believe in providing immediate help and in relieving symptoms right away. Banfield is not that place.

Getting out of a contract here is like getting out of a bad marriage. They automatically renew and when you call to cancel, it’s 70 min wait, 56 min wait and goes on and on. They tell you you can use text but then they can’t validate account. After 2 months of trying to get through and an office that can sign you up for plan but not cancel… we are Free. Yet they won’t refund the 2 months of the second year , even though per has never been seen and I didn’t resign .

The docs and techs here are amazing! Our dog Ruka woke up very sick and they were able to squeeze her in immediately. The staff is so compassionate, friendly and informative. We’ve been coming here since Ruka was a puppy and they have always been very thorough and informative. I knew she was in great hands! They called every few hours with updates while she was in their care, which gave me peace of mind. We are on the wellness plan, which is well worth it. I would definitely recommend Banfield Jax beach!
