How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Oaks Veterinary Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

We've been taking our pets to Oaks Veterinary Hospital for 15 years. I love everyone there. They take such great care of our animals, especially Dr. Sturgeon. He truly loves animals and gives them the best care for your every concern.

I started bringing my dogs here after I moved down the street and I couldn't be happier with my choice. Every person working there is unbelievably kind and caring for animals. Dr. Sturgeon took a personal interest in the well being of my dogs from the minute he met them and I can only imagine he shares that energy with all of his patients. He is also very knowledgeable about the different avenues that are possible to take in terms of your pets health and has always been considerate of my financial situation while still providing the best possible care. You would be lucky to call him your vet.

Extremely disappointed in the way things were handled with my support animal at this clinic. My dog was having trouble closing her mouth and was completely unable to do so on her own. Dr Sturgeon put her under and examined her and performed x-rays on her jaw. $600 later he didn't have an answer for me. He referred me to UF and informed me it'd be $1500 just to walk through the door. He stated it might be best for my dog if we considered humane euthanasia. I visited a different clinic the following Monday for a second opinion, and *now my dog is completely fine after taking antibiotics*. I would NOT recommend you take your animals here.

Dr Sturgeon was the first veterinarian who was able to help my dog to get through the appointment without him panicking. Koda has a history of being very difficult but Dr Sturgeon was so calm and understanding, reading Koda’s body language before doing anything. He was able to examine him and draw blood without anyone even holding him. Very impressive, highly skilled and most definitely recommended Dr Sturgeon as your veterinarian but especially if you have a pet who has fear issues.

Dr. Sturgeon has been taking care of our family pets for almost a year now. He goes in depth at every appointment and always wants to educate his clients. The staff from receptionists to technicians are all super sweet and make us feel like a part of the family.
