How to Save on Veterinary Costs at House-Call Vet

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian

Experience

Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.

Emergency Care Procedures

It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.

Communication Preferences

Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.

Breed Specific Health Considerations

Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.

Wonderful and caring person! She has been my vet for over 25+ years.

Jun 9, 2025

She came to our facility and insisted that the dog she was seeing had a bad infection from being fixed. ( She did not want the dog fixed to begin with) So we took the dog back to the vet who fixed him and there is no sign of infection. (The dog was taken to the vet the next day. after she insisted he had a serious infection) She queried the capability of a wonderful humane group in our area. She even tried to give him an injection of antibiotics that he did not need. She then came back the next day to try to give him antibiotics orally. She came at the most inappropriate time. When we requested her to wait until lunch was over she got hostile and said she was going to call the cops. She left abruptly and called the cops and an ambulance. Which was a false report. The police told us that we should file a restraining order on her because this person is obviously unstable. We would give her negative stars if we could because this was very unprofessional. By the way we loves cats and rescue them. Hope the prediction of another plague in this country is prepared with enough cats to help us with it. Being some feel ie: *The above vet* that all cats should be euthanized.

Glad i dodged that rude bullet!
