How to Save Money at Coral Springs Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We've been here quite a few times with quite a few other dogs. I am thankful for the emergency service that is provided and thankful that they are open 24 hours a day. The staff has always been inviting and compassionate and none of our dogs have ever complained that they weren't well taken care of. This trip, Omar and Dr. Gonzales were able to see Moose and I quickly and determine his issue.

Dr. Bruce Sullivan and all CSAH staff have been an absolute blessing for both of my dogs, Sammy and Bugsey. His depth of knowledge and compassionate approach put both my pets and me at ease during every visit. Dr. Sullivan always takes the time to answer any questions I have and provides thorough explanations about the treatment options available, ensuring that I feel confident and informed about the well-being of my fur babies. Sammy and Bugsey always receive top-notch care and leave the clinic wagging their tails! I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Sullivan to any pet parent in search of a dedicated, knowledgeable, and caring vet.

Excellent service! I trust this animal hospital completely. Dr Sullivan is kind, caring and knowledgeable. Takes time to explain everything, answers questions patiently and throughly. I wouldn’t take my sweet dog anywhere else. As far as their prices are concerned, they are really no higher than others of their caliber. A dollar more, here and there, are worth my peace of mind, knowing that I am getting the best care available for my pet.

I would avoid this place!!!!! Took our doberman there because our vet was out of town and he was limping pretty bad and would not bear weight on the back leg. We told the doctor and nurse we thought it was his paw because he’s been licking it uncontrollably. ( our dog does not let us evaluate him, but will let anyone else) The Dr assessed him in the back- and said he saw nothing wrong so give us two options bring him home with painkillers and come back in a day or two if he is still limping or x-rays. ( he wouldn’t stand on his back leg so I thought bringing him home like that was not an option) He insisted on sedating him for x-rays even though I told him he does not need to be, doctor said he was very willing to cooperate such a sweet boy even called him an angel (so y sedate?). After doing blood work, because they had to sedate him, sedated him, and did nine x-rays. 9!!!!!!!The doctor decided to look at his paw again after doing nine x-rays BECAUSE ONCE AGAIN HE SAW NOTHING WRONG (his words) and lo and behold he ripped his paw pad. So apparently he didn’t do a very good assessment in the first place. Our dog got stuck for bloodwork sedated and nine x-rays for literally no reason, then charged us $1500. We fought tooth and nail. This place is a joke and just wants your money. If you really did an assessment and looked at our dog thoroughly in the first place we wouldn’t have had to go through all this and put him through the trauma. They assess your dog in the back not in front of you, so I don’t even know what he did.

We received bad news about our loving dog (Dorothy) that she had cancer in her lungs. Many Doctors gave us doom and gloom news, and did not want to treat. Through search we found Dr. Alvarez, an oncology veterinarian. He was very honest and open about our situation but was willing to treat Dorothy. We knew it was a buying time situation. We ended up buying more time with our amazing dog Dorothy. The oncology staff along with Dr. Alvarez were very caring, compassionate, loving, and honest. They treated our dog as if it was their own. I highly recommend the team and Dr. Alvarez.
