How to Save Money at Fetch Specialty & Emergency Veterinary Centers

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot say better things about Fetch, their staff, and their facility. I was initially referred to Dr. Merkle/Fetch in April 2022, by a vet at BluePearl, for my dog, a 9.5 year old (at the time) Great Pyrenees with Osteosarcoma. We were referred to Fetch to begin Stereotactic Radiation and chemotherapy. Dr. Merkle is so wonderful, and was amazing to work with. After my dog’s initial treatments with Dr. Merkle, we transitioned into working with Dr. Costa, who has been equally amazing. The two would collaborate on different approaches to her treatment & made everything feel very seamless. My dog, also, as of recent had her cancer metastasize (which is expected) and ended up having surgery with Dr. Enderle, which went super smoothly, and my dog had a quick recovery. The vets again collaborated to plan the best time to fit in this time sensitive surgery amongst her chemotherapy treatment. We just wrapped up treatment at Fetch, and are currently in the process of enrolling my dog in a clinical trial at UF— something that wouldn’t have been able to happen without all of the staff at Fetch’s assistance. All of that said, my dog’s prognosis was initially 8-9 months. Currently, we are at 17 months post-diagnosis, and we would not be here if it weren’t for the amazing vets, vet techs, and admin staff at Fetch. The front office is always super accommodating, and responsive to all emails, phone calls, and other requests. My dog has never been a huge fan of going to the vet, but she is always in good spirits at Fetch and loves all the attention from the staff. I cannot say thank you enough to everyone there, they certainly have exceeded every expectation, and truly helped my dog beat the odds. I am forever grateful for this amazing team!

I've had an exceptionally wonderful experience at this place. It started in the ER. Dr. Johnson was by herself that day, but she was so patient. Her and the internal medicine doctor Dr. Hogan were very thorough and it saved my best friend's life (Belle). My family took Belle to see Dr. Costa who is an oncologist. She explained everything so my family could understand while she sat on the floor with Belle. Instead of doing diagnostics that were costly and would need to be repeated; she referred us to UF in Gainesville. By not doing tests twice she saved us thousands. She also referred us there very quickly. I've never met her but I will always be grateful. Dr. Hogan is an angel. She did a fairly simple procedure on Belle, but Belle developed the worst case of hypocalcemia she has ever seen. Belle stayed at Fetch in ICU for almost a week on IV calcium. Dr. Hogan saved Belle not once but twice. She kept me updated by phone calls and emails. I was a wreck but she always made me feel so much better. I dealt with the ICU doctors, ICU nurses, internal medicine nurses and the office staff. Everyone was so welcoming and kind to me. I was having the worst days of my life and they always were so friendly and accommodating. They let me visit Belle twice a day. When I would visit at night I would go in the back and it was the sweetest thing how the nurses tuck in everyone for bed and kiss them good night. We visit now monthly for labs and a shot that she will need for the rest of her life. She's 12 now, but we still get more Christmases, birthdays, and vacations together thanks to all of the staff at Fetch.

Two weeks ago, I had to bring my Merida in because I could tell that there was something wrong. She would not eat, and this is definitely not like her. When I brought her in, she had a fever of 106*!!🥺 They immediately took care of her and helped me find a way to cover her care. Everyone was so nice! I was able to bring her home the next day. She recovered so quickly and has been her self ever since! Thank you so much for making my baby better.

We accidentally dosed our cats with K9 Advantix for large dogs(which FYI has chemicals that can't be metabolized in a cat's liver so, 10/10 do not recommend!), and despite frantically and immediately bathing what I can only appropriately describe as 2 bags of knives and monitoring them, Velo was pretty lethargic, but Anna Bella started having tremors by the next morning. I rushed her to Fetch in the first time she'd been in a pet carrier, let alone a car ride, for almost a decade, and from the moment we arrived I felt like we chose the right place. Beth checked us in and instantly made me feel comfortable; Tiffany came out right away to clarify the situation, which was so comforting; Jenna immediately came out to ask some follow up questions, and brought her back to check her vitals in case she needed fluids asap. Dr. Pfefferle kindly explained the situation and that she would need 24-48 hours based on the K9 manufacturer instructions, because it was a heavy, possibly fatal dose. Caitlyn came in with further information and explained prices but also payment methods including Scratch Pay, which was a life saver in itself, and Covington was excellent in helping me figure out how to apply for it while in my shaking disposition. Caitlyn allowed me to say goodbye to Anna Bella before leaving, but disclosed her increase in tremors so I wouldn't get caught off guard, comforted me by saying this is not as rare as it seems, and let me take my time in giving Anna Bella extra snuggles before leaving. Dr. Johnson called me the next morning with great news that she did well through the night, and double checked on her previous physical issues to ensure they weren't due to the advantix, and suggested I pick her up as early as possible as she didn't need to stay there any longer and she seemed very nervous. I was there ASAP, and Jessica checked her out and was so amazing and kind with helping me gather everyone's names while she worked with patients walking in and answered the phones. I sincerely hope I didn't forget anyone, but everyone at Fetch were incredibly kind and compassionate in our time of crisis. AB and I are forever grateful. Thank you so much!!! The photo was taken when she first got back home. 💓💓💓

1st I want to say you have an amazing set of people working at this facility and the facility in Bonita Springs I had to take my dog for tumor removal on his lower arm. Dr. Enderle was absolutely phenomenal and her nurse practitioner Diana if I could give 50 stars it would definitely be for Dr. Amanda back at Bonita Springs fetch wouldn’t change her for the worlds. She is an awesome Veterinarian. Chopper wants to say thank you for everything that was done for him yesterday. Also his nails Chopper is alert and happy this morning. Also mom very happy. Thank you for everything you did for Chopper yesterday and keeping me at Bay….
