How to Save Money at Belleview Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My wife and I moved to Florida in June of 2021 and needed to find a new vet for out 2 dogs. Was told that this was one of the best places in the area to take your dogs. Place is run by a father, daughter duo. The staff is always friendly and helpful. We have been taking our dogs there for 2 years now, and they have given our dogs nothing but the best care for our furry loved ones. I highly recommend taking your pet here. They are always pretty busy, so you may have to sit on hold for a while, but the care they give is worth the wait.

I could not write enough kind things about this place. We just moved here from out of town, and an emergency situation led us to stumble upon this place. They have helped save my dogs life and help us figure out a solid plan. They truly took great time and care to tend to us. They were the only place around town who told us to “come on in” when everyone else told us they didn’t have any openings to help. Jackie in particular has been AMAZING!!!! She has truly cared and helped us immensely. She has such a great heart and I am so thankful for her and her pure kindness. Brittany was so sweet and a joy to have around as well. Both lady vets we have seen have been very knowledgeable and great. The front office staff have also been very kind and patient. Overall I am very happy with this practice and how they care for the people and paws that walk through their door. There’s no money in the world you could pay to make someone genuinely care about something, it is a priceless gift this practice gives to you for choosing them. Thank you for everything Belleview!!!!

Belleview is an amazing Vet and they have a terrific staff. The staff here is very accommodating, especially in an emergency situation. Their prices are very fair and reasonable. I live over two hours away and they are worth the drive. Their work is very thorough and the communication in explaining their procedures is very detailed. They opened their doors for me in an ER situation on Superbowl Sunday when no other vet was available and again, recently. I cannot thank them enough for always being available when I need them the most.

*In response, being called a liar by your staff seems to do that to a lot of people. In particular, their apparent repeated disavowment of a client's understood appointment time. I read the reviews, and you've done this to multiple people. Always lay the blame at your client's feet. Yeah, you're busy, but apparently not busy enough to prevent you continuing a battle YOU lost. I never had intent and do not enjoy writing this review. But, as this is the main outlet I use to voice my experiences, I feel cornered. Belleview V.H. is an excellent institution. Kind, knowledgable staff, a well-maintained premises and first-rate care. However, you cannot dismiss the fact that people, are people. We have a Chihuahua (Freaky) and American Bulldog (Ivory). Freaky needed some meds and Ivory has been getting ear treatments. We had an appointment (July 12th?) that had to be rescheduled due to finances. We'd rescheduled before and didn't want to rock the boat again, but had no choice. A new appointment was made for the 18th of July, but we needed to go ahead and pick up meds for the dogs. A tech called back and explained that Freaky's thyroid meds and Ivory's ear rinse required they be checked out. Freaky's heart meds could be filled. The tech asked if we had enough thyroid med to last the week for Freaky, which I said we did. My wife arrived today for our scheduled appointment and was turned away at the door, them insisting our appointment was the 25th. When my wife returned, I called B.V.H. for an explanation. The first person I spoke with told me that when my wife picked up Freaky's heart meds SHE changed the appointment. No. The second person I spoke with ignored the first person's remarks (saying they were wrong), then claimed there was NO WAY we scheduled the 18th, they were scheduling 2 weeks out. I proceeded to back-and-forth with this person. her acknowledging the phone calls on the 11th (appointment and tech), but insisting we HAD NOT scheduled the appointment. I tried to present our side, but it was pointless. I thought the tech I spoke with would remember the situation and vouch for us. Wrong. The tech didn't dispute much, but claimed up front that she couldn't possibly remember the details of every phone call. Still, what she added to the mix became the new flashpoint. Out-of-the-blue, the tech declared "you don't need an appointment for Freaky, you could just bring him in." Freaky's thyroid meds were the big concern and if we knew that, we would have already taken him in. Wait - we can't make an appointment for 2 weeks, yet we could just bring Freaky right in? I said that would have been good info to know EARLIER. The tech exclaimed, "I tell ALL my patients about that." No, you did not tell me that, no one told my wife when she went to get Freaky's heart meds. No. I explained my displeasure at what I considered lies and misinformation, and that I would divulge as much in a Google review. The tech's first threat was subdued, "Oh, no! You don't want to do that..." I interpreted it for what it was, a veiled threat. If I wrote ill of them on Google, they would retaliate. From there, the conversation became diluted. I had stated my position and was not straying - they had bumped us out of our prior appointment, NO ONE said anything about being able to just 'drop by' with Freaky, I'm writing a review. The tech's second threat was outright. "Sir, if you're going to act this way, we won't be able to serve you." Ohhhhhhhhh. So, if I dispute you and refuse to back down, you're going to punish me. Got it. Regardless of me not having cursed, raised my voice, or otherwise acted uncivilized. Even though none of you could give a concurring, straight answer. I even endured all three of you demanding I listen, but when I spoke you'd talk right over me. News flash people, if you CHOOSE to refuse us service you aren't hurting us, you're hurting OUR PETS. My wife and I go to actual doctors. Well, except for that flea thing... BTW, I'm a vet too - but I'm just the kind that served our country.

I have finally found a home to bring Lady Ann to. (a shelter dog) I trust the Dr.'s here, as they are totally concerned about your pet. When I arrive to their establishment, it is so calming to take a stroll amongst the green grass & visit the horses. What an experience!! I highly recommend Belleview Veterinary Hospital.
