How to Save Money at Summit Bridge Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Okay, I don't usually leave reviews but I chose to do so today for several reasons. Three years ago, I left my Yorkie with the boarding side over the weekend. Summit was fairly new...about a year or two in operation at the time. I took a tour of the place and it appeared to be the perfect place to leave my fur-baby. After picking her up, let's just say it was not a good weekend for her. I will not go into details as to what happened because at the time, I did not leave a review of the incident so I will not now. Fast forward, believe it or not, I chose to take her back to Summit boarding for 4 days...allowing them to redeem themselves. I expressed to the staff as well as the manager how important it was that they do Not make the same mistake. There were a few staff who remembered me and assured me that it will not happen again. I went on vacation last week and every day that I was there, I received pictures and a report on how my fur baby was doing. They really redeemed themselves this time around. I appreciate everyone who had a hand in taking care of my baby. And she made the staff/customer board. Marcus took a liking to her so he took pictures with her. Again, I took a chance and they were great!!

The Summit Bridge Vet Hospital staff is a great group! They're well trained, caring, and are truly interested in giving our 4- footed friends their very best. They've provided great comprehensive care for our two cats and our dog for the three years we've lived in Bear, including both required meds and examinations, and surgical procedures as required. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they truly care about, as well as for their furry patients. I can't think of a better place for our pets to be treated!

The staff is amazing and really considered what was best for our fur baby, Porter. While we had arrangements for one full day of doggie daycare and one night of boarding they did reach out mid day to let us know that the Day Care was too overwhelming for him. Understandably, rather than continuing with a full day of doggie daycare we decided he would do better with walks and one on one personal time. Very grateful for their concern and care. Porter says thank you as well.

We absolutely love and trust all the staff at Summit Bridge Vet!!! One of our cats, Gordon, is very anxious and all of the staff members work hard to ensure he is calm and happy during his vet visits. They went above and beyond for him during a recent health scare and we couldn’t be more grateful. We’ve also had a great experience with Cheyla’s Rescue Foundation. In fact, the staff at Summit Bridge knows Gordon so well, they were able to help us move forward with adopting our other cat, Phoebe, who they believed would be a great personality pairing for Gordon. The two of them are best friends and we have Summit Bridge/ Cheyla’s Rescue Foundation to thank!!! We trust the staff so much and know our cats are in the best care!!!!💗

My puppies went to be groomed today and they look and smell wonderful! They came out happy, and seemed to have a good experience, following a bad one at the last place I took them to. Will be taking all of my dogs there from now on!! Update!! They gave the girls an appointment then denied that there was an appointment made, and the girl talked to me like it was my fault. Beware!!!
