How to Save Money at Angel Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Whoever the man that answers the phone is needs to be fired. If he is the owner he should be put out of business. I needed a physical for my parents dog the man said NO find someone else they are too busy and hung up the phone. My daughter called asked if they do physical the man said yes when she asked to make an appointment and he asked why my daughter said the dog has a cough the man said NO we can't see him. Why have a vet clinic that offers physicals if you going to turn down people. He is rude, unprofessional, and should not be allowed near any animal because he obviously lacks ANY type of kindness and empathy for the animals in need or their owners.

I had to bring my cat in because he was lethargic and I knew something was wrong. Dr. Saleh has a brusque disposition but that is just his personality. My cat is around 14 years old and the doctor kind of prepared me for the worst. He took blood and we found out he has high sugar and a bladder infection. He gave me antibiotics and special food for my fur baby and he is improving by the day. I have never had a bad experience here. The vet tech is very kind and compassionate. My only complaint is that it takes a while to pay and get out of there but that’s because they are busy, busy with other patients. So have some patience.

This Vet is all about the MONEY and not the pet!! I had an appointment yesterday for the very first time. My female French Bulldog needed an annual check up. I had Vetco and my prior Vet (who unfortunately isn't near) send this man Dr.Salah all of my dogs medical records. Upon reviewing all the information Dr.Salah and I spoke on the phone. He asked if he could vaccinate my pups knowing that she was completely up to date with ALL of her vaccines.I told him I get all her vaccines at Vetco because they are less expensive and more convenient for me. I told him that the appointment that I had in a few hours was for an annual check up. He told me NOT TO COME and CANCELED my appointment. I just needed to get my female in for an annual checkup. As a "professional " if he found anything wrong with her during the appointment we could address it. Dr Salah was not interested in giving my pup an annual checkup. He wanted to "SUPER SIZE " the appointment before I even got there. This man is RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL!!! I have NEVER experienced such an UNPROFESSIONAL VET!!! BEWARE!!

The worst veterinarian, very busy to properly care for your pet, my dog had to arrive in an emergency to another hospital because they did not make a good diagnosis. We went back to complain, and they didn't accept their guilt. If you live in West Haven. Look for a place other than this one. Zero recommended, very expensive, bad service.

My fur babies have been clients and boarding guests for 15 years. The staff is great and they prepare you prior to, during and after your appointment. Overall everyone is very helpful and accommodating!
