How to Save Money at CityVet - Thornton

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely love this place! It's a night and day difference from my last vet to CityVet Thornton. I highly recommend them due to availability, taking care of my dog, empathy, knowledge, cleanliness, and friendly staff. The place feels inviting and has a friendly vibe to it that my dog and I noticed immediately. I switched to CityVet from my old vet for these reasons. The office itself is nestled away in a small shopping center next to a Starbucks off 128th in front of the Wal-Mart. The place has plenty of light, room and places to sit. It didn't feel like a cold hospital or vet room. Lots of bright colors and sun in the room I'm usually put in. My dog loves this place and usually has a smile ready to go in. There's a small python in an aquarium in the main lobby / waiting / check-in and check-out area that need's a good home. I brought my dog here because my dog's toe got severely infected. It needed to be amputated and CityVet was able to accommodate this quickly. I got the run around between my old vet and the closest Pet ER over a month. Meanwhile the infection got worse and my dog being in constant pain. The old vet and ER quoted me 3x as much and an appt wouldn't be available for 2 weeks. I get their super busy with the neighborhood pets. Dr. Fujikawa was able to fit my dog to get an amputation within 2 days. An exam was done to see how bad the infection got and made recommendations. Within the week the amputation is done and I have check ups every couple of days to make sure it looked good. My dog is without pain now and running around like his old self (with the exception of running into things because he has an e-collar on). Price: Very affordable versus the other vet offices in the area. Staff: Extremely friendly, knowledgeable and very kind. Katie, Autumn, Riona, Whisper, etc. always been a great interaction. Vet: I trust Dr. Fujikawa to work with my dog and make recommendations to keep my dog well and happy. Cleanliness: Very clean environment. What could be better: App is sort of useless because you can't make changes or see shot records. Not CityVet Thornton's fault, more like the corporate UX/UI designer and developer issue. I have already made tons of recommendations to my family and friends to switch. My sister and her family's dogs have already made the switch. Absolutely the best experience so far and felt I was always taken care of including getting calls and reminders. They truly do care about the pets and their owners.

My animals and I absolutely love this place. We are always greeted immediately by the friendly front staff and there is no wait for my appointments. My animals are always treated well and the techs are very knowledgeable. Dr. Fujikawa is a amazing vet that works with my aggressive malinois and she is always well taken care of and I know she is safe while being looked at and treated. He does wonders with my old Shepard, and under one year pitbull as well! He also sees my snakes which is a huge plus! The facility is always clean and tidy. They even have grooming and my dogs have never looked better! Krissi did a wonderful job! Overall this is the best place for all my needs and I highly recommend them. They will take care of your babies like family.

My dog appeared to be in pain so I called different vets in the area trying to get a same-day appointment. After briefly describing the visual signs my dog was showing, CityVet was able to get us an appointment. Unfortunately we didn't receive good news but the staff here was very thorough and accommodating. This will be our new vet.

Everything was great except for the bill at the end. I should have just gotten a prescription and taken it to Costco for the medicine. I also should have only asked for 1 can of dogfood (which my dog was not interested in) instead of the 12 that they gave me because I called them up and they told me that I can not return it. At $5/can, it adds up. I think I will be going somewhere else next time.

Unfortunately both of our dogs came down with a stomach bug over the Thanksgiving holiday. They were able to get us in quickly to help get our dogs feeling better. They had all of the meds on hand including some stomach friendly food. They also gave us tips and tricks to help us when they have stomach issues in the future. I appreciated that they gave us an estimate at the beginning of the visit so we knew how much the visit could cost us but also let us know that the price would likely be less if we didn’t need some of the tests. The good news is that the visit for both dogs ended up being much less than originally quoted and overall very reasonable. Not only were we impressed with today’s visit we plan on using them for all of our regular vet visits going forward.
