How to Save Money at Peak To Peak Animal Hospital P.C.

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My husband and I were on the road traveling last June and camping nearby when our 15-year-old beagle had a seizure while on his morning walk. We took him to Peak To Peak because they were open early and only a few miles from our camp. The receptionist got us in to see the doctor right away. We ended up making the decision that we’d been struggling with for a time before the trip and unfortunately had to put our pup down. The receptionist gave me, a complete stranger, a big hug which showed so much empathy. The compassion that was offered from the receptionist and doctor on that horrible day was so welcome and that kindness will not be forgotten. Another patient was sitting in the waiting room and told us that his family decided to get paw prints made of their pets and they were so happy they did. He highly recommended that we do too. We had a paw print made and sent to us along with his ashes and we’re so glad that we did. It was beautifully done and now we have a keepsake along with his ashes. Both the paw print and the urn containing his ashes came with his name on them. Ultimately, we are very glad that we chose Peak To Peak Animal Hospital.

My two Labradors went here most of their lives. We were good customers and our dogs behaved during their visits. When one of my labs suddenly got sick, we called for an emergency appointment, but no one answered. We left a message and they never called us back. Sadly, my dog died that day. I just assumed they were busy but they never called to follow up and see if my dog was okay. It was not their fault that my dog died, but the lack of compassion in returning our phone call is horrifying. Two years later, I get a reminder from this vet that my dogs need a Rabies vaccination. I will not be recommending this vet to ANY pet owners.

Earlier this week I needed to get my dog in for an evaluation under emergency circumstances. I live in Denver and had called 15-20 offices in the area and nowhere could see him unless I wanted to pay an absurd "emergency" fee. My parents thankfully then recommended Peak To Peak Animal Hospital. They squeezed me in to their schedule later that afternoon and I had a great experience. The staff (Aly) was very kind and welcoming upon arrival. Dr. Clements was very knowledgeable and friendly and my dog was able to get the undivided attention he needed. Not to mention, this office is VERY reasonably priced. I plan to take my other pets to this office for future visits. Highly recommend Peak To Peak Animal Hospital!

The lovey receptionist & Dr. Clements squeezed us in last minute and was quick and efficient!! It’s usually hard getting into a vet when living on the road but this was a breeze! We had an incredible experience!!! (Our pup got bit by a dog) He even let us hear our sweet pups heart beat with his stethoscope! Seriously best vet. 11/10 recommend.

We had an excellent experience with Peak to Peak Animal Hospital. Dr. Mike took great care of our cats, explained to us exactly what he was treating and why, and always called to follow up after their surgeries and treatments. Our cats always seemed comfortable with Dr. Mike due to his kind presence.
