How to Save Money at Lone Tree Veterinary Medical Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I came to Lone Tree Vet because I assumed they were more professional than anywhere else. I paid $506 for a certificate of good health for my pet to travel outside of the country since I am moving temporarily. Even though banfield was cheaper, I came here because of the great customer service I received over the phone. However, no one told me that I would not be able to leave my appointment with the certificate. It wasn’t until I was at the appointment that they told me it would be emailed to me the day before I travel. I am traveling on a Sunday and tomorrow is Memorial Day just to increase my luck. I never received my certificate. I should’ve known not to trust a certificate to come in THE DAY BEFORE TRAVEL. I need every cent I paid back. I’m SO upset.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about this medical center. We have been going for years for annual checkups for our dog and it was time for a dental cleaning. I was so nervous about my sweet baby dog going under anesthesia. The staff at Lone Tree were so professional, caring, and amazing and most of all COMPETENT and COMPASSIONATE! I had nothing to worry about because they treat the pets having a procedure as if they were their own family and pets. Chelsea, the anesthesiologist, was the most caring person and was an angel to me and our dog. Dr. Voss is the best doctor I have ever encountered at an animal practice. So caring and patient with so many questions I had. My baby is doing so well and really had no problems with the procedure or after. I’m so grateful for Lone Tree Vet and having entrusted my dog with them. Thank you Dr Voss and Chelsea and to your whole amazing staff. Nicole Pribble

My experience was very different than the average review. Looking to share to ensure anyone like me is aware. I was hopeful this location would be the right one for our GSD, especially since it was near our home. Everyone was very kind, welcoming, and nice. However, there were long delays when first coming in and getting someone to acknowledge us, waiting to be called back, and eventually being able to pay and leave. I respect places are busy, but when added up it was just short of 57 minutes of waiting (yes I kept track). A plus was there was next to no wait for the nurse and vet once in the back. Though the level of care was not to my liking as more emphasis was given to providing services due in the future than the current issues at hand. The worst part of my experience was the level of cleanliness I experienced during my visit. The waiting area near then weigh scale I was guided to wait in had enough hair strewn all over to recreate the animal(s) it came from (got on our clothes and over our dog). It genuinely looked like someone groomed a few dogs in that area and left the hair. We were not able to go to another area because of 4 other people with dogs haphazardly placed everywhere. Also, when taken to the back the silver/grey towel on the table had a good amount of hair on it as I learned that the hard way when I placed my hand on it and found it covered in what looked to be cat hair. There were also many places (3) where other animals (dogs I presume) had leaked some sort of fluid(s), one of those places was our room and I had to take some tissues and clean it up as I did not want my dog to get it on him. I had a few red flags and went against my better judgement and should have left.

Would give no stars if I could. My dog went in for an exam and certificate of good health. Vet Lawrence Burstein told me that the emailed certificate would arrive in my inbox the day before my flight. Of course, the certificate did not show up and there was no way to get in touch on a Sunday. The airline denied my pup and I had to scramble to find someone to take care of him. This isn’t even the worst part. When I called for my refund, Mr. burstein decided to drone on for about 5 minutes about how to was up to me to call on Friday. Even though he advised it would be in my email the day before my flight- my flight was on a Sunday- so there was no way I would expect it to come that early. He continues to go on about how the past certificates were emailed both to the vet and the patron in previous cases but in my case it only went to the vet. Instead of apologizing for the fact that I wasted $250 on my dogs cargo space and the fact that I have to live six months without my baby boy, he decided to drone on forever about why it is my fault and why he is not responsible instead of taking any accountability. Burstein, I hope you take a good long look at yourself and your inability to accept fault and be accountable. You gave information that was not accurate and never apologized in the end. Terrible doctor, terrible place. Take your pet somewhere else.

I am extremely thankful for them. Words can’t describe how courteous the staff was from the time we called, to arriving at the vet, and then leaving. Thank you so much to the lady that helped us with Milly.
