How to Save Money at Altitude Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I started going here because I liked the groomers for brushing my dogs teeth and cleaning his anal glands. After my first visit with a doctor, that mentioned brushing my dogs teeth more often, I asked the groomer if she wouldn’t mind showing me how to do it and she took me back to the room and just placed toothpaste on his back inside teeth on both sides and that was it! I was getting charged $12 for this. With my first visit there to see Dr. Kim, I was surprised that no attention whatsoever was given to my dog in the office, no getting to know him, petting him, or offering him a treat, or a smell of her hand. For the second visit a few weeks later, I asked if I could see a different doctor so that I could meet all 3 of them and we were assigned to Dr. Ansenth. The day before the second visit I asked if they have time to do a leg x-ray and they said yes and asked if I could come in 15 minutes early as I did. The day of 1st morning appointment they said they were short staffed, and wanted to keep him in a kennel for half a day in order to get that X-ray. Instead of leaving him, I decided to reschedule, but I wish they wouldn’t of told me the day before that it was no problem. I want to mention that this doctor also didn’t give my dog any attention. Both doctors stood by the desk in the exam room, as if they didn’t even like dogs.I also received a six month prescription to send into an online pharmacy. When the online pharmacy called the vet, they said I needed to get a heartworm test before filling the prescription, yet I had the paper prescription in my hand. They made a mistake, and they would not help me get this prescription filled until I made another appointment, which would cost more money and time. I will be returning to our very, animal loving vet, in Parker.

From the first phone call to the first visit we are amazed. The team is so genuine and friendly and the clinic is impeccable. Clean, bright, double doors to prevent pets slipping out. Dr. Kim was so kind and informative and patient with our GSD. The whole front desk were also very kind and helpful. We are so happy we switched to this vet clinic.

Today was a difficult day and words cannot express the feeling of gratitude for Dr. Todd. Her kindness and compassion for a heartbroken pet owner will be remembered. Many thanks to all involved for the peaceful transition over the rainbow bridge.

Update: they're super great!!! They were able to squeeze in my two pets this evening. I'd been putting off bringing them in but with a baby on the way it was time to get caught up on things. I've worked for several vet clinics so I'm picky about who I'll take my pets to. They are great! SO happy I found this clinic. Van Gogh snuck out a window last night and got in a fight with a neighbor cat. Our normal vet couldn't get us in today. Altitude was able to get us in for an appointment. They were so thorough and kind. Pricing was very reasonable. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Thanks for taking such good care of my big kitty!!!

Dr. Josie was absolutely amazing with my puppy. She answered all my questions and then some. She was patient and gentle with him. I would highly recommend this vet clinic to anyone. I have had some bad experiences at other vet clinics but felt nothing but welcomed from the phone call to schedule him, to entering the building and leaving the appointment. Everyone there was great! Thank you Dr. Josie and staff at altitude animal hospital for taking great care of Dempsey!
