How to Save Money at Best Friends Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I thought I had written a review after I visited Best Friends Animal Hospital, but see I didn't! This is the best veterinarian clinic I've ever visited. Over the years I've had several breed of dogs and had some good doctor's. But this was the best of the best! From the time I walked in until I walked out we were treated like family. Fantastic knowledge of the signs and symptoms my baby had. The correct diagnoses, treatment, medication and above all the kindness and caring way they cared for him and treated me. If you take your human baby into a doctor or hospital and given a bill, you don't bat an eye! You are grateful and pay it. You should feel the same about your sick fur baby. If you don't, you do not need to be a pet owner. Love your animals, love your veterinarian! And staff!!!❤️

I would give this veterinary hospital and its staff 20 stars if I could! We are new to the area and noticed our dog was having ear pain this morning. We called a few of the local centers and Best Friends is the ONLY one that went out of their way to get us in quickly! And thank goodness they did!! We found out within minutes of arrival that our sweet 14 year old pup had cheatgrass burrowed into his ear canal. The doctor and vet tech acted quickly, and got him sedated to remove it within minutes. We luckily caught it before it impacted his ear drum and while the entire experience was scary (more for us than Charlie, because they were AMAZING with him), the team really put our minds at ease. They were compassionate, informative, and most importantly - I felt like they really treated Charlie like their own. It’s safe to say we found our new vet in Cedaredge and would highly, highly recommend Best Friends to anyone looking. THANK YOU, Best Friends team, for making my sweet boy a priority and for taking such excellent care of him (and us!) today. He is now resting peacefully and on the mend.

Our dog Molly was well taken care of. The vet is knowledgeable and takes the time to explain what needs to be done. The price seems a bit high 😳 but that seems to be the norm. We made an appointment in a reasonable amount of time and saw the vet without an undo wait.

We had a dog we needed to put down due to multiple attacks. The last straw was when the dog ripped the throat of a tied show sheep. While young girl was working with it. This hard more then hard decision was made. Due to safety reasons. Remember this was NOT the first of even second time. We called and were trying to explain the situation and was abruptly told "We don't put dogs down for this reason" and hung up on.

Fun and caring environment for both the human and the pet. The front desk staff as well the vet and vet tech were amazing with me and my high anxiety dog - it felt like we found a place that cares about not just the physical health but the mental health and comfort of me and my "best friend" and I love that the emails come from "best friends"... best vet!
