How to Save Money at Vibrant Pet Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I echo the last two reviews. If I could give them no stars I would! This was by far the worst experience we have ever had trying to work with a vet, or for that matter any "professional" service. They were rude, defensive, dishonest, and didn't care at all for the well being of our dog who was very sick and in great need of care. We did all we could to accommodate their wishes and to address any issues they raised and no matter what we did, they continued to be extremely irresponsible, dishonest, and aggressive in their communication with us. I can't imagine how they are staying in business. In particular, Dr Brock seems to have some serious emotional and relational issues that are contaminating the entire practice. We went to Durango and the difference in care was striking. The vet and the entire staff there was kind, concerned, communicative and truly did all they could to help us even though they were completely inundated with sick animals. We will never go back here and will gladly drive the additional hours to Durango or Albuquerque in order to avoid doing business with NOT Vibrant Health.

Similar to other reviews, we took our dog here for an urgent matter where she had been limping. I can understand if they didn't have availability, but there did seem to be any concern or care for us. Just very dismissive and standoffish.

Our dog was hit by a car and we needed to be seen Asap. The vet on call called us back 30 min later and didn’t seem to care. When I stated we are on our way to Durango he said oh have a good day and hung up! 2 weeks later our dog had an open wound because of high risk infection he needed to be seen ASAP. The receptionist stated they couldn’t see him today they could get him in 2 days later! No concerns nothing on their end! They were careless! Two days later we receive a letter in the mail stating we can no longer see your dogs. I hav never been treated so poorly from a vet and I’m not happy! We are now going to a new vet in Durango and the difference of care is day and night! Vibrant Pet Animal Hospital is not pet or people friendly!

I love this clinic and have had only great experiences. A few examples: Dr. Berry successfully performed a surgery on my dog that other vets had said was not possible; Dr. Brock is incredibly knowledgeable and patiently explained the root cause of my pup's back issues, and Dr. Da Re has always been super kind and happily answers all of my paranoid dog mom questions. The techs and staff are also wonderful and do an admirable job managing a very busy clinic. I feel like people complaining about cost need to understand that when you get a dog or other pet, you have to expect having occasional, unexpected costs. It's not like vets are in it for the cash--they have an extremely demanding job, they are very highly educated, and do their work out of a genuine and deep-seated care for animals. So, be nice to your vets and vet techs! They truly want to take care of your pets and help them to thrive.

They treated my dead dog like luggage tossed into roaring furnace, I have had 28dogs, never had to deliver the loved one to a cluttered back yard garage. Unprofessional!!!!!
