How to Save Money at Bear Creek Veterinary Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We recently had to put our beloved 15 year old Red Bone Hound/Labrador mix, Hazel, to "sleep." Always a heart wrenching experience, to say a final goodbye to a family member! Bear Creek Veterinary Care's staff and physician made it as sweet as they could. They gave her cheez-whiz and whipped cream to distract her from the IV insertion. After not eating for a few days, she was able to eat that up. They gave us all the time we needed, after working us in on a busy Monday schedule. I highly recommend them for any and all of your pet's needs. Thank you ALL at Bear Creek Veterinary Care for your compassion towards us and helping our sweet Hazel gently exit her painful body. The ashes and paw print were a comfort when we received them 5 days later. ❤️

I’m not extremely worldly in the sense I haven’t dealt with a massive list of different vets, but, they always make it so my best friend is happy and healthy. Every visit makes me feel like they care more about my pets health than the bill at the end, and that to me is worth it’s weight in gold.

Dr. Unsell and the staff here have taken such good care of my cat when she needed it most! Every approach taken and suggestion given had her as well as myself in mind. I always feel extremely comfortable taking my animals here as I know they’ll be under the best care possible by the best people.

The care we received from the Bear Creek Vet was always the best. Everyone at the practice was always super knowledgeable and helpful whenever we called or visited. As a military family, it is always difficult finding a new vet that cares for your pet like their own and the Bear Creek Vet did just that. Although it was a little more expensive, we were always happy to pay the extra money for the exceptional service they provided. Any time we had an emergency or needed care right away, they were able to fit us in. In addition to great care in office, they always called to follow up after visits to make sure that our pet was doing well. We miss this vet clinic and will have a difficult time finding anything comparable at our future locations.

Oh the amount of tears I have typing this. Words can not even express how blessed my family is to have such an amazing team not only care for our fur babies but the amount of love they have for them as well. This past Tuesday was such a hard day for us as we had to say goodbye to the most wonderful & beautiful bestfriend we could ever have. Every single person in there showed us so much love & even kept our 5 year old daughter busy to keep her mind off of what was happening, and for that I can’t even thank them enough. We had the greatest opportunity to adopt our sweet angel a year ago. But with that came a lot of complications but we knew we were ready for whatever was to come because we just knew we needed her just as much as she needed us. This team has been by our side and cared for & loved our Sage from the very moment she walked through that door until the very last day she couldn’t come back home. Thank you all so much for your kind words and keeping our family in your thoughts. And the one quote I’ll never forget the day we had to say our last goodbye from one of the sweetest ladies “Who saved who?” 😭 Thank you all from the Beltz Family
