How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
11/22/25 me and my baby went to Banfield Pet Hospital at 571 N. Academy Blvd and received exceptional care from the moment we walked in until the time we left totally happy. The wonderful receptionists KNOW you and your pet's name even before you say hello and that is so amazing! They greet you with kindness and are soooooooo loving to your pet, it just warms my heart. I was scared baby had an ear infection due to repetitive scratching and that was NOT the case... ears just needed to be cleaned well and they did it the SAME day at that appt and Nurse Mandy even showed us HOW to properly clean the ears at home and my dog lovedddddddddddddd her cleaning his ears as she kindly demonstrated the procedure to us both... LOVED her ear cleaning soooo much that he actually LEANED in closer to nurse Mandy as she cleaned his ear soooo well.... I was sooo happy and amazed! and happy for my baby that he enjoyed it!!! :-) Dr. Rizzardi spoke in DETAIL to us of what he found in the examination, and how to care for baby, what to expect, etc. He even mentioned how we could have baby's ears cleaned during nail trim appts if we wanted to which I thought was a great idea! Dr. Rizzardi is very relatable in his compassion for pet care and in caring and understanding of pet parents concerns or worries... he is very reassuring and kind and professional... he put our worries at EASE. It is sooooo NICE to know that Banfield Pet Hospital is there for us everytime we need them and their staff is soooooo beyond expertise, kind, caring, professional and detailed... they actually treat your pet like it was their own pet and that level of medical care and compassion and gentleness and GENUINE caring is just absolutely OUTSTANDING! I’ve been coming here for quite some time and have been with Banfield in general for over 8 years. Ive had surgeries done here, emergencies done here, as well as their normal routine visits. Not to long ago, one of my dogs got into THC and she was struggling. They got me in right away and did everything they could to get her back to normal. Within 8ish hours when she came home, she was a completely different dog and back to normal. I owe this clinic everything - they love all of my dogs and know them by name, treat them with so much love, and the staff (front of house and back) are fantastic. I have a majority of large breeds - Danes, mastiff, cane corso and I’ve always felt that they are very knowledgeable about each breed. I’ve saved a lot of money by going with the plan and will forever put my dogs on it because it’s worth it. I just appreciate this staff so much!!

Banfield pet Hospital took good care of my pets. Made sure they were in good health. Price is about average I think compared to other vets. It’s best to get the affordable plan. They have pet care options available that can be useful if your pet is sick often.

Dr. Rizzardi is our vet and we love him. He's treated and cared for 4 dogs of ours, 2 now that have passed. He always explains everything really well and he's just really kind and gentle. He listens to every concern and makes sure your furry friend is in good health!! The staff has also been very friendly as well! We enjoy and trust this office very much!

I've been coming here for over 2 years, and now all of a sudden that can't get the appointments right. I come in at the said time I have an appointment and they tell me it was the day before, which is none sense! They specifically called me to reschedule and then say your appointment was yesterday. The reason it got canceled was the doctor had to leave earlier than expected. Now all of a sudden I'm feed up, they're making up lies and seems to be money hungry instead of caring for pet like their supposed to be! Would not recommend! Now I'm switching doctors to one that actually cares!
