How to Save Money at VIDA Veterinary Care - Centennial

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My dog has severe anxiety when at the vet and Dr. Rahim was INCREDIBLE! The first thing she did when she walked in the room was offer him treats and get on his level to earn his trust. After a while and without any change in his anxiety, she suggested we go outside to have the exam as this sometimes soothe dogs. Having worked in the animal industry my entire career, I have been to more vet appointments than I can count. This one was by far and away the greatest experience I have ever had. If any of you have dogs with vet anxiety, I cannot recommend Dr. Rahim enough!

I've been taking my dogs to Vida for 5 years now and I can't recommend them enough! They've been a lifesaver helping with a tooth extraction, torn acl, dietary issues, and even paperwork for traveling to Hawaii. The staff is always so wonderful and I am so grateful to have found this place!

My cat Sunshine became very sick and couldn't keep any food down. I had originally called Homestead Animal Hospital for emergency care, but they were booked for 3 days and was subject to new client approval. They recommended VIDA for any emergency care. I was able to get an appointment as soon as they opened and thankfully, didn't have to wait to get care for my baby. The staff and lead veterinarians were awesome with descript and accurate diagnosis of the illness. They were completely professional and truly cared about getting Sunshine healthy again. They treated her like one of their own. I definitely would recommend them to anyone who needs routine pet care or experience an unexpected emergency. They are now my Vets of choice. Thanks VIDA! No C'mon Man's here 😉😻

Worst Veterinary experience ever! First time with this place, definitely the last. If I could give zero stars I would. We used mapquest which turned us around a little so we were a few mins late. The receptionist was rude. Told us we were late and wasnt going to let us have the appointment until someone came in after us with the same issue. I guess since we werent the only ones she had to let us keep the appointment. We finally got in and the vet didnt even look at our dog. Didnt check her heart, lift her tail or touch her. We got billed for an exam on top of the lab charges. After looking at the video the vet says: yep..Sending to the lab. Will let you know in a couple days. We called the next day to see if anything came back, was advised results would be in by end of the WEEK when we were told 24 to 48 hours on Monday. On Wed, we called again because NO ONE called or would return our call to find out the stool sample was lost. (Why did no one call when this was discovered?) Communication from this place is non-existent. We just wasted 3 days, time and money to find another BETTER vet that got results in less than 24 hours with meds.. and they actually examined the dog. Do not take your pet to a vet that wont touch your dog, doesnt communicate or return your calls or pony up and call as soon as there is an issue. We could have gotten another stool sample that next day and got the dog on meds sooner.. slowest ever process and horrible communication.

All I can say is WOW what a mess!! We overpaid for pre-op bloodwork for a neuter on Friday ($235 is almost DOUBLE what other vets charge - I called around) and were told we couldn’t schedule the appt until the vet called us with results - probably Monday. After reading reviews online that this clinic tends to not call clients in a timely manner, I reached out on Monday to see if results were in. THEY WERE but again I was told I couldn’t schedule the neuter until the vet called me to discuss results. So I called AGAIN on Tuesday and finally got the results from a tech that all is fine. Ok great so now let’s schedule the neuter. Turns out they aren’t available for a few weeks and we need this done asap. I let them know we’ll have to transfer the bloodwork results to another clinic and thought we were done. Then the manager calls me and tries to tell me we could have had an appt THIS MORNING, which was news to me, since everyone I talked to would not let me schedule anything until I had spoken with the vet. I mentioned that in our conversation and the manager said the vets usually call in the evening. Soooo explain to me how we could have been on the schedule for this morning when the vet hadn’t called me yet to go over bloodwork. This place is an overpriced mess. Go anywhere else.
