How to Save Money at Veterinary Specialists of the Rockies

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely incredible staff. While the cost of medical for animals is high, no matter where you go, here you pay for what you get, the very best care and expertise. We brought our dog here and they walked us through every step with kindness and understanding. Dr. Churchill did everything she could for our dog, our family, and our hearts. She never once left out details, options, and it was evident that everything possible was done. Immediately we felt safe knowing our dog was in her care. All of the staff were incredible. No matter the efforts there was nothing that saved him and even our grieving process was handled with care, time, and patience. While the story has a sad ending, we feel at peace knowing we brought our dog to the best place. Thank you all. I would highly recommend this vet er to all near or far. When it comes to our animals the cost can seem high, but when you love them unconditionally like they love us, there is no price we were not willing to pay.

My sweet boy Willie was unexpectedly diagnosed with canine lymphoma on 05/23/22. I made calls trying to get him into an Oncologist to discuss treatment options. When I called VetERinary Specialists of the Rockies their oncology department was able to see him the next day. When we met Dr. Arthur I knew immediately that we got into the right place & that he would receive the care he needed. Even though he knew he was going in for treatments, Willie walked in with his tail wagging. When he saw Elsa, Dr. Arthur, Lexi or any of the other staff, his whole body wagged. He thrived on love & attention & he got more than his share every time he walked through the door. Willie wasn’t just mine. He worked with me at a rehab center for adolescents. Because of Dr. Arthur, Elsa, Lexi, and honestly the entire staff at VetERinary Specialists of the Rockies we all got 7 more months with our best good helper Willie. For 7 months I saw these people on an almost weekly basis. They genuinely loved Willie & it showed. Not just when I came in with my boy for treatments, but even after I/we lost him. They made the process as bearable as possible & always kept his quality of life of utmost importance. I can’t thank Dr. Arthur enough for being there for my boy when I wasn’t. (You will always have my utmost love & respect for that! 💖) No one wants to hear that their dog has been diagnosed with cancer, but if you do, please bring them here. You can trust Dr. Arthur & her team. She/they will do everything in her/their power to not just help your loved one but also be honest and compassionate with you throughout the process. Thank you for all you do & all you did! (BTW…I have NEVER written a review of any place of business before but y’all earned & deserve this one!)

I had to bring my cat to see Dr Arthur for an oncology consultation. Dr Arthur was very friendly, extremely knowledgeable and patient as we discussed a treatment plan for my little girl. I went in to the appointment very scared about what to expect but left there very confident that we had a good plan that will produce good outcomes. Dr Arthur is very open to questions, she doesn't rush the appointment. I'm thankful my baby girl is under her care. The staff were also great. I highly recommend this team.

Minutes after Mikey chewed up a Sago Palm when I called my vet they told me to take him to the Vet ER in Castle Rock. We called on our way up so that they would be ready. The tech met us at the front desk and we were whisked into a room where Mikey was weighed and vitals taken, then he was rushed to the back as they needed to induce vomiting. All of this within the first hour from when he ate some of the leaves. He spent 3 nights and I was called and updated twice a day. I am convinced that 1. our getting him in so quickly and 2. the vets fast treatment is why Mikey is still with us.

From the first moment you walk in this place it's clean and beautiful. They have an entrance for dogs and one for cats, which I was worried about since I was bringing my cat. The front desk staff was so friendly and showed genuine concern for my situation. My cat is a little feisty and actually scratched one of the vet techs. They could not have been nicer about it. I felt terrible, but the reassured me that it was "occupational hazard, and Part of the job." The vet, Dr. Bea was awesome. So kind, caring and thorough in his explanation of what they were going to look for in my cat Sunny, and then sent the Vet Tech in to explain the charges to me before they did anything. I just can't say enough about this place. I am writing this review because I have not had good experiences with having to take my animals to an emergency hospital in the past and I was really relying on reviews to decide where to take her. Thank you to all the people that helped us with our cat Sunny. We are so grateful.
