How to Save Money at Vail Valley Animal Hospital - Eagle-Vail

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been brining my dog here for almost 4 years. The staff here is always friendly and caring. Front desk always answers any questions with smiles. Dr.Suplizio is the best, with the lady with red curly hair. I highly recommend them, they have treated my baby with such love. I love this place.

We had to rush our dog to the Vail valley animal Hospital after my dog Riley ripped out his nails on the metal holed gondola plank on his way down from hiking up overlook trail. We were in Eagle Vail Valley to enjoy hiking with the pups and only planned on staying a couple of nights! Dr. Charlie and his team took Riley in on an emergency basis at 4 o’clock in the afternoon even though the doc had scheduled appointments coming in before the end of the day! Dr. Charlie met Riley and explained very calmly what needed to be done. Riley latched on so hard with his back feet that the long nails clinched into the plank as he got into the gondola . He cut off two of his back nails and the quick was red and exposed about a quarter of an inch - it had to be super painful, but I have a tough dog ! Dr. Charlie recommended surgery to clip off the exposed quick and cauterize. I felt so comfortable with doctor Charlie and his team that I wanted him to take care of it! This vet team is absolutely wonderful- I came back to get Riley and medication for pain and an antibiotic. They even stayed late to get that done that evening- Rileys paw was all wrapped up nice and clean. It sure made a comfortable night in the hotel before going home the next day, knowing and trusting that it was done right ! We got back to the Springs and my regular vet’s staff unwrapped his paw dressing and it showed what a pro job he did ! There was no bleeding and the wound looked like it was healing beautifully! Plus- I thought what they charged was more than fair - such a great price for that type of surgery on an emergency basis !! Super impressed with Dr. Charlie and his team- they are a smart and dynamic team- I really wish that they practiced down here in the Springs!

PHENOMENAL experience! Dr. Tom Suplizio takes care of all 3 of our black labs. He’s kind, patient and most importantly dedicated to his profession. He’s a great surgeon and truly cares about his animals and customers. The ladies who are the vet techs are amazing as well …thank you to everyone at VV Animal Hospital ❤️

I can’t say enough good things about this clinic. I was visiting Vail with my dog when he suddenly got very sick with severe vomiting, diarrhea, and even some bleeding. Dr. Duncan and her vet tech were both absolutely amazing. They were so kind, patient, and thorough. They got us in right away, explained everything clearly, and treated my dog with so much care. They ran tests, gave him fluids and medications, and made sure I felt informed and supported throughout the entire visit. They truly went above and beyond to help us during a stressful time, and I am so grateful for their compassion and professionalism. Whether you live nearby or are just visiting, I would highly recommend them.

I’m from out of town, but have used this vet service multiple times while visiting. I highly recommend them. This time we saw Dr. Tom Suplizio. He was great. He took the time to read the notes from the previous vet who treated this recurring condition, gave a thorough and thoughtful assessment of the situation, and made a sound treatment plan. He was respectful toward me and my dog and answered all my questions. I will definitely return if the need arises.
