How to Save Money at Barker Road Spay and Neuter

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I am beyond grateful for Barker Road Spay and Neuter. As a pet parent, there is nothing more stressful than knowing something is wrong with your dog and feeling helpless. After my dog had complications from his neuter incisions done elsewhere, I was terrified and desperate to get him help as soon as possible. Barker Road took us in as quickly as they could, and from the moment I spoke with the staff, I felt a sense of relief. The woman who helped me was incredibly kind, patient, and reassuring she truly listened to my concerns and treated both me and my dog with so much compassion. You could tell this wasn’t just a job for them; they genuinely care about animals. What truly shocked me was the cost. They charged me $150 to properly place stitches, while another clinic wanted over $1,000, even though I already had an active care plan with them and the work done there was poorly handled. Barker Road not only fixed the issue but did so with care, honesty, and integrity. I could literally see the difference in my dog. He felt safe. He was calm. As a dog mom, that meant everything to me. Even though this clinic is about an hour drive away, I would make that drive again without hesitation. Peace of mind is priceless, and that’s exactly what they gave me. If you’re looking for a trustworthy, compassionate, and affordable clinic that treats your pet like family, I cannot recommend Barker Road Spay and Neuter enough. I will absolutely be sticking with them moving forward and referring anyone I know who loves their pets as much as I love mine 🐾💙

No Ruff Housing

My old Staffy had to be put down without much notice today, and the staff was incredibly accommodating. They have a small staff of three people and all of them are so kind and patient. After spending thousands of dollars for emergency vet care for not just this dog, but my past two senior pets; Aurora definitely needed a low-cost veterinary clinic, and Barker Road is a godsend! Huge thanks to the team for making it easy on me and Elmo to say goodbye to our beloved Taz. ❤️‍🩹

Dr Sarah is absolutely amazing. She was patient with us, informative and did everything she could to give our dog the care that was needed. We had gone to several other vets with no hope of real help. Dr Sarah gave us hope and help, our dog unfortunately didn't pull thru like we had anticipated. Barker road staff and Dr Sarah did everything that they could and didn't give up. Which We are forever grateful. Thank you dr Sarah for giving our dog a fighting chance, and giving us more time with our fur baby. All dogs go to heaven 🐾 🤍🪽

This hospital is great. They are kind, patient, and super loving. Additionally, super affordable. We made the tough choice to have our 14 year old Boston Terrier put down today. We will miss her terribly, but I’m happy to have found this office for our future animals spay/ neuter/ dentals, and end of life care. The vet was amazing and so kind.

Came here for end of life care for my elderly dog. The care we received was perfect. My dog was treated with love and tenderness at every step and they checked in with me as the process moved along to be sure I understood and was prepared for each step before it occurred. I almost don't want to mention that they were markedly better in price than anywhere else I could find in the region because I don't want to undermine the quality of care. Would absolutely use them for any of my pet service needs and have recommended them to anyone I know in a similar situation.
