How to Save Money at Oak Glen Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had initially hoped to give this place a higher rating because I believe the dog received adequate treatment. However, I was disappointed by the fact that the initial and follow-up check-ups were never conducted in front of us. As animals cannot speak for themselves, I was seeking exceptional treatment rather than just good treatment. Furthermore, they also forgot about us in the room for a few hours, which added to my overall dissatisfaction.

We had to say goodbye to my best friend Venti recently. He had declined rapidly and wasn't strong enough for a last trip to our beloved long time vet back in Chino, where we used to live. We are new to the area and I was grateful Oak Glen was able to fit us in same day so he did not have to suffer. I usually don't leave reviews but the overall rating for this compassionate and kind veterinarian and her office seems inaccurate so I felt I should offer my experience for the community to consider when trying to find care for their loved ones. Love you forever, Vent.

Took care of the injured stray cat we brought in, no other Vet in my area has any walk-in clinic so we took the cat here. The staff are professional, accomodating, attend to our needs in a timely & reasonable time, we were in and out in less than 30 mins. even with 2 people ahead of us. "Hero" the stray cat was treated well by the Dr. assigned and his wounds were cleaned to where it could heal properly. Dr. D was courteous and kind, explained what treatment were provided, and after visit instructions. Kydos to Dr. D and the whole staff.🤙❤️ THANK YOU.❤️🙏 My only issue is the cost if thus care. I understand times are hard, and so prices should be in-line with the present stage of the economy & to help out the community Vet needs. Just my thought.

I have always loved this centenary office, however I recently had a terrible experience with the veterinary clinic I have been taking my dog to for the past 5 years. It is disheartening to say that the staff, particularly Jessica, who answered the phone, was extremely rude and lacking in any compassion or understanding for animals. I called the clinic to request a 3-day prescription for my dog, as I was awaiting an order to come in the mail. Instead of offering any assistance or understanding, Jessica responded with an unapologetic and dismissive attitude. It was as if she had no regard for the well-being of my beloved pet and even hung up the phone on me when I was asking to transfer my referrals elsewhere. Considering the length of time I have been a customer at this clinic, I expected a certain level of empathy and willingness to help. However, my interaction with Jessica left me deeply disappointed. It is disconcerting to see such a lack of compassion from a veterinary clinic that is supposed to prioritize the welfare of animals. To add to this, my dog was seen earlier this week by Oak Glen Animal hospital and referred out to a surgeon for a torn ACC. It is clear that my poor dog is in pain and unable to move, however, they are still denying a 3 day supply of pain meds after I had spend $900 this week just for imaging there. My appointment went well and like any other appointment, however I had to call daily to try to get a follow up regarding the imaging results. I had to call 3 days in a row just to find out my dog needs to be transferred to a surgeon. Considering that this is a very serious appointment/injury for both me and my dog, I expected a lot more attention and care from them than what I have received. As a pet owner, it is distressing to be treated so callously when seeking assistance for my furry companion. It is clear their staff lacks not only basic customer service skills but also a genuine concern for the animals they are meant to care for. I have always loved Oak Glen Animal Hospital up until this point. I will be denying any services involving Jessica. She has no heart or empathy towards animals or even humans for that matter. Not to mention they aren’t a low cost vet. I expect quality service when I’m paying to dollar for my baby.

Completely useless vet if I could give zero stars I would. I called mentioning my dog had a foxtail in her nose they told me to bring her in, once I get there they charge me almost 300 to “sedate her” with pills to see if they can look inside then call me to tell me they don’t have the correct instruments for foxtail removal. So they charged me and sedated my dog just to tell me they don’t have the tools. Front desk Taylor was not helpful at all I had to involve cooperate just to get my money back. If you have an emergency please do not go here and waste your time.
