How to Save Money at Imperial Highway Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Service is slow. Lots of story time between staff members. My dog has had allergies for years and I continue to have shenanigans. I was the first person there today, and it still took 30 min to see me. Then, I asked for a longer supply of apiquel...which she has been prescribed 3+ times in the past, they gave me a 2 week supply and said come back for more. I really don't have time to just sit in the waiting room. Ill be back for the 2 week visit (for my dogs sake), but I'm changing vets. I just don't trust them. This feels like a money grab with slow service...I wouldn't even mind the money grab part, but service is slooooooow...

These people are wonderful. My 17 year old dog had a rotten loose tooth. I had been quoted $1200 by another vet to take it out. Dr John took her in the other room and came back one minute later with the tooth. My dog looked happy and relaxed. Billed $150 which included meds and supplements for an additional skin allergy problem. Had her back for glaucoma a year late in acute eye pain. Eye had to be removed. Surgery successful for $400 less than they quoted me. These are honest, compassionate professionals.

One of if not the best Vet hands down . Dr John Adam is so loving and caring towards our baby girl we have been coming here for years . The staff is also very caring they listen to all of your concerns and address them appropriately. The office is very very clean . I would totally recommend Imperial clinic to anyone. You will not be disappointed.

Do not take your animals here- in short the vet running things over there, Dr.John, is arrogant, condescending, rude & unprofessional. The treatment is poor, the communication is horrible & the lack or professionalism in a medical environment is obsurd. Our dog went in for stomach surgery & was returned to us severly injured; limping & unable to put weight on his left back leg. We brought our 11 month old cane corso puppy here because he wouldn’t really eat due to a stomach blockage. Dr John examined him (*zero limping or other injury was noted by the way- his notes actually said our dog was "bright, alert & responsive"- doesnt sound like any indication that leg limping was happening, right?) and took xrays of his stomach. First thing he said when they did xrays was he needs hip dysplasia surgery. He was so motivated to recommend surgery at 9k per leg- before he even discussed the urgent reason we were there- the stomach blockage (it was a bone). We only wanted the stomach surgery since the stomach blockage was literally crucial at the moment! plus his legs were FINE, everyone at the vet & in the lobby saw this- he was jumping, leaping, happy hyper puppy (although I know he'll need water therapy, massages and treatment for the long run) he never EVER has showed signs of limp or pain in his legs or hips, ever. Both legs felt strong and he had no problem jumping up on things & being a regular active puppy- running up stairs, hiking up mountains etc. He NEVER had an awkward gait, never started slowing down or showing signs of any pain or a decline in health. He was in imperial highway animal clinic's care for 4 days. (They only documented 1 day of care there). We had been calling at least 3x a day for Kings entire stay, for updates and his status. Certain days we were hung up on, ignored or not called back especially when our dog was throwing up after surgery. We weren't even notified until we kept calling. We asked to come down and check on him the day after surgery- they said no. When we finally went to pick up King, they wouldn't let us see him with the Dr in the room which was strange. We were in the exam room with only the Dr., not our dog. We were told to leave the room to pay by a vet tech (after Dr John argued with us about the bill to where he couldn't identify where the extra charges were coming from, slammed the door and went to the back- never to be seen again- btw he was looking at the wrong estimate bc we already had paid a portion of the bill during xrays the 1st day). After paying, we were by the frontdoor a tech quickly brought our dog out to us. Upon grabbing the leash I noticed he couldn't walk right. He was severely limping on his back left leg!!! I immediately turned around & went to the desk and asked what happened?!? No one could answer me they seemed confused. I asked for the Dr but they sent out a tech to which she said she didn't know why he was limping maybe from laying down..The other tech came out and said "well he has hip dysplasia so". Dr John who did the surgery won't call ua back, they won't answer what happened in their care & when exactly. It's just so bad to the point where he hops around, crying some days. His stomach surgery is healing okay, but his back leg looks and feels different- he's hurt. Something happened to our dog there. The Dr could have overextended the leg or moved it to a position to where it's completely damaged now. They could have damaged his leg by physical force as well, we don't know because we weren't there and we weren't allowed to check up on our dog midway through his stay there either. Hip dysplasia that shows no signs CAN be severly escalated and damaged due to an overextension of the leg or incorrect movements (including other leg bones as well other than the hip). How unprofessional is it to knowingly harm a dog in your care, then refuse to show me my dog in person with you in the room upon picking him up from the vet? What's even more perplexing, surgery or my dogs post op care was never discussed or mentioned while we were in the exam room with Dr John.
