How to Save Money at ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospitals - San Fernando Valley
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

When you need a specialist to diagnose your pet, this is the place to go! Super friendly & committed staff. Our local vet has been great with vaccinations & general care, but this time that wasn't enough. We needed extra care to get our Kona Bear back on her feet & on the road to recovery. Hands down they exceeded our expectations.

I brought Belle to the emergency because her vet wasn't in and she looked so uncomfortable with what might be a UTI. They told me it may be a while and I got it because the waiting room was basically full. Then they came and asked if I wanted to be on the urgent care list and that even though the appt wasn't for an hour it may be faster. As soon as it was her appt time they took her back, the vet came to talk to me, they ran the tests and the vet came back to go over them and I even got a copy. They all seemed on top of it and my Belle who hates being out of the house was home within 2 hours even with the hour wait time. I would definitely come back for the urgent care. Dr.Serex and her team were super nice and efficient and Belle feels much better already.

Yes you pay a bit more because they have to support a 24/7 operation. And yes, they provide you detailed up front estimated billing and require payment before performing services. But the level of care we experienced was excellent across the two doctors and several staff that we worked with while assessing and caring for our cat. What’s more, when we paid for a care plan and ended up not needing the entire amount of services planned, we received an accurate and prompt refund to our card without having to even ask or follow up. Would definitely take pets here in the future should the need arise for this level of support.

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction and concern regarding the treatment and care provided to my cat at Access Hospital. My cat underwent a surgery at thisfacility, which, despite a high success rate, resulted in the unfortunate death of my healthy cat. We were extremely disappointed by the lack of communication and care provided before, during, and after the procedure. Furthermore, the surgeon, Dr. Woody, who performed the surgery was unreachable after the procedure. Despite our multiple attempts to contact her, she did not respond, leaving us without the necessary follow-up care and information. This lack of communication and support was unacceptable, especially considering the circumstances. We also have serious doubts about the surgeon’s expertise given the outcome of a surgery that should have had a 99.9% success rate. It is deeply troubling that such a simple procedure resulted in such a tragic outcome. Additionally, our cat was kept in a cage with a catheter on, under immense stress, and was not given a chance to recover or perform on his own. Instead of allowing him the opportunity to regain his strength naturally, he was confined in a way that likely contributed to his distress and decline. We also feel that in situations where pet owners are desperate and under immense emotional stress, this hospital takes advantage of their vulnerability by charging unthinkable amounts of money. Instead of providing compassionate care and transparency, the focus seems to be on financial gain at the expense of both pets and their owners. This kind of practice is unethical and unacceptable.
