How to Save Money at French Valley Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The entire staff was incredible! Very knowledgeable and great with my dog. They took great care of my Belgian Malinois, and the Vet was able to detect what the issue was right away. Although my dog is well behaved, they took all the appropriate precautionary measures when dealing with an animal in distress. I am so glad to be back with this team after 3 years. I am happy to report my Mali is no longer in pain and back to her old, active self. Soon, I will be back with my other dog for a wellness visit!

French Valley hospital has been caring for my two dogs since we moved to Winchester from San Diego about 3 years ago. The staff is extremely helpful, professional and pleasant to work with. When we call for a last-minute appointment, they find a way to fit us into their busy schedules. The vets are extremely attentive to our issues and make accommodations/provide treatment options when costs may become prohibitive. I highly recommend them for any veterinary services you may have.

Hands down the best Vet in the area. If ur apt is at 10am they see you 10am which is so nice. They don’t make you wait like ALL other vets and i find that extremely refreshing.

Dr. Deol is a gem. We had an emergency situation with our dog, "Jingles." He recognized the urgency of the situation over the phone and told us to bring her in immediately. I was relieved that she was able to be seen right away because she was in a lot of pain. How can I express my gratitude to this man for his patience, kindness, and care in an extremely difficult time for me? He included me in each discussion and decision with care and compassion ensuring that we had time to think about our next decision. His technician, Jeremy (I hope this is his name), was wonderful too with the same compassion and patience. He just listened to me talk about our sweet, amazing, one-of-a-kind "Jingles" and we never felt rushed. I also want to mention that they also gave us a first-time client discount and they REALLY didn't have to. They could have charged us an emergency fee, which most other veterinarian offices would have, but they are so gracious and kind that they did not. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this doctor and office.

I noticed a growth on my 16 year old dog Tuesday morning. I called our vet, Vetco/Petco in Temecula, Ca. I explained the situation and asked for an appointment. They didn't have any appointments, including urgent appointments for the entire week 😒. I called several other vets in the area, all who said they weren't taking new patients 🙄. I went onto Nextdoor, and alas, I was referred to French Valley Veterinarians. I called, and Yes😁😁 they are taking new patients!! HURRAH!! I was able to book for 9:00 am, next day. WHAT A REFRESHING EXPERIENCE!! I arrived early, was greeted with a 😃 smile, AND Jacob, our greeter, knew who we were!! He actually said, Hello Cooper (my dog). I was moved into a room immediately and filled out the paperwork/ 1 page. The doctor came into the room, examined Cooper, and gave me my options and his opinions. No Pressure!! Jacob went over costs and options with me, again not presurring me into any treatments. I have owned several dogs, and I've worked in a dog rescue, and I've never had such a pleasant experience at the vet's office in California! I would highly recommend this veterinarian and his delightful 😊 staff. Thank you for all of your help, advice, and genuine concern for Cooper.
