How to Save Money at Bay Cities Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had to put our Teddie Bear to sleep a couple of days before Christmas. I was a mess. The Dr I could not tell if he said Dr. Mitchell or Dr. Mitsell. He was very kind and reassuring. The staff there was all nice too! I was feeling very bad and they helped me through the rough time. I know different people get along differently but they made it as great an experience as it could be- for euthanasia. I had chosen to cremate Teddie Bear and her ashes came back in an adorable little box with a little lock and a plaque with her name engraved on it. That was such a hard time for me and the staff was so loving. I won't forget it.

I hate giving bad reviews but I feel it's my duty to help other potential parents of loved cats or dogs. Night and day difference between when Dr Sullivan and the whole staff ran it compared to the new owners and there staff. I have 3 dogs and have been loyal and coming here for 12 years but not anymore. There is many negative reasons why but here's just one, I gave them my number to call me concerning a bold face lie and they won't call me back which proves they don't care about the very reason why there in business. We are the parents of our loved dogs and cats so take charge and find a more professional and loving pet hospital.

I’ve been coming here since I got my dog onyx 11 years ago. They have help me through some tough times. When I couldn’t afford the bill. They trusted me enough to pay monthly till the bill was payed off. Recently I haven’t been so happy with them just because I haven’t been able to walk in with my pet and everything been handle through the phone. I understand because of COVID but I hope they change that soon. I like to be one on one with the vet and see what’s happening to my pet,

I've been going to this hospital for many years but no more at least till the issues is fixed. So here is one of my most recent experiences here My pet was having skin issues i called and asked to speak to a doctor but the doctor was busy at the time an could not come to the phone so the receptionist asked if i would like a call back i said yes she got my information down just so i wouldnt get a call back. So a couple of days ago, my pet was due for its check up so I took it to the hospital and decided to take it upon myself to ask. The reception as to why I never received a call. And come to find out that there are 2 receptionists who take it upon themselves to decide whether your pet's issues require a call back and if not they just cross you off the list. My question is, who are they and How are they qualified to make these types of decisions? Are they doctors cause last time i checked they are receptionist. Like how is that okay ? I honestly believe whomever is in charge needs to get to the bottom of this cause it is not okay for 2 individuals to make such decisions without the medical training of a veterinarian. So till this issue is resolved i will not be going here and you shouldnt either.
