How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was missed quoted on the phone a couple hours prior to my appointment. And the person that Miss quoted me was very argumentative when I went in. If she had just said, maybe she made a mistake I would have been fine it was only maybe five dollars difference, what I was upset about is she was not professional or doing good customer service and her communication. It was rude. She even left off arguing leaving the desk. She was trying so hard to prove that she would not have missed quoted me. Everybody makes mistakes. I have asked him to review that phone call. That was offered to me. So I would like someone to review that phone call , just because she needs to know how to talk to a customer and she needs to know that it is OK to be reasonable and not have to prove she's right at no end. Even if she's wrong. As far as the rest of the service, the doctor was awesome. It was of the original doctor she was stepping in for the doctor, but she was great. The other person at the desk she was awesome too. Everything else went really well and Zahrie had a good experience.

The staff here are great. They made everything so easy. I had a couple of questions about our account and they took care of us. And the Vet was super sweet.

My dog had a fox tail deep inside his ear. I was so pleased that I was able to get a same-day appointment. Service was fairly quick, and I was pleased.

We were very pleased we could get next day appt. Our dog born with ectopic ureters. Surgically correctable but failed d/t rare complication nearly died last fall to a kidney infection so when we suspect a UTI there’s no time to waste! This was our first visit because her only vet since birth retired. Because we have her groomed at Petco and purchase your warm hearted diet for her we thought it e would be easy to have all her cares in one place. The cost of this visit was competitive with surrounding hospitals and we were advised of all costs before they proceeded. We did join vital care because she does frequent the hospital and that should help with the overall cost of all her cares. Employees are always welcoming and nice to Birdie our 8 year old wheaten terrier . Her tails a wagging when Debbie takes her in the back for grooming and that speaks volumes . Because she’s incontinent she needs grooming often and Debbie always does a good job and takes her last minute when Birdie stepped in something very gooey and was attracting everything she came across to the r paw. Because she began to clean the foot before we noticed that gooey stuff was in her face beard and chest. I tell Birdie if a lady is going to wear a beard it must be kept clean and tidy. 😂 I would recommend Pertco Temecula on Winchester to family and friends . We also belong to a dog club on Instagram that hosts a world wide gift exchange at Xmas we are encouraged to record the shopping of gifts and Petco employees are always ready to record our visit and even allow her to stand up at the counter pretending to pay with my atm card . It’s really a lot of fun and they have a warm and friendly holiday spirit
