How to Save Money at Hardin Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’m fortunate to be a loving friend, companion and new pet parent to my feline named Claws aka “Stinker” who will turn 1 year old this July 1, 2023. Claws who is a male Domestic shorthair “Mackerel”, and me his pet parent became a lifelong customer of Hardin Animal Hospital after Claws’ first visit in August 2022. It had been several years since having a pet cat or dog, and I had been seriously thinking about adopting a cat, and coincidentally, acquaintances of mine presented me this kitten for adoption on July 27, 2022, and it was claws at first meet, thus appropriately naming him Claws. Days later, Claws was showing symptoms of which later, determined by his new vet, had an upper respiratory infection. Having the convenience of Hardin Animal Hospital within walking distance, and the friendly welcome we received by the staff helps make life a little easier. Today, we returned on a scheduled office visit to have Claws’ nails clipped, rabies and other needed vaccinations, and have Claws micro chipped. In addition to the convenience and friendliness, we also appreciate the loyalty program that rewards customers like us with points that we can redeem for further services. I was a little nervous anticipating that Claws may show resistance to having a pedicure and vaccinations for the first time today, but, Claws was a champ, and the technician is experienced, conscientious and patient. Claws recovered nicely in only a few days from his upper respiratory infection. We recommend Hardin Animal Hospital for you and your loved pet.

I can't express enough how amazing Hardin Animal Hospital has been for my dog. They literally saved my dog, Jeffrey's, life a loyal companion I've had for ten years with an emergency blood transfusion. I'll be forever grateful. But here's the thing that blew me away: they're not just about medical heroics; they're also super understanding about the cost side of things. The team worked closely with me, giving me options and insights into what my pet truly needed and what we could work around. It felt like an honest conversation, not just a medical transaction. From my experience, I genuinely feel they care about pets and their owners, making sure that everyone gets the best care without breaking the bank. Finding a place that combines top-notch medical skills with such a caring attitude is like hitting the jackpot. Hardin Animal Hospital has my loyalty for life.

I took my dog spike in for an exam and vaccines and I want to say, the office is so clean. The manager and front desk is so friendly and really nice. Also, Back staffs and the doctors are also great and treat my fur baby just like their own. I’m glad I found a great vet here in Stockton. I would recommend my friends and families to Hardin Vet.

If you want an overpriced, uncompassionate and unfriendly doctor and office manager, come here! I tried Hardin because pretty much all veterinary clinics in Stockton are over priced. I paid nearly $1,400.00 for one x-ray, lab work and 3 medicines. The vet was very unfriendly, absolutely no bedside manner. I wanted a copy of my x-ray because I went to another vet. They closed my account. The manager was very cold and unfriendly. Every veterinarian I have tried in Stockton are way overpriced (I am 64 years old and have had numerous pets in my entire life). I can no longer have pets due to the rip off prices vets in Stockton...anyone with me?

My poor kitty was sick with an upper respiratory infection and it was a Saturday when he was definitely in need of care/examination. I called multiple veterinary offices and all of them said they were too busy to have him seen. After going down the list I came across Hardin Veterinary hospital and gave them a call. They told me they could see my cat in an hour. The veterinarian was a wonderful woman who was super nice and got my cat the medicine he needed. All for a fair price. Same day appointment, 3 medications, and an injection was only about $300. At my regular vet clinic same care would have cost me well over $500. I’d return to this vet for my animals. This clinic may not have all the outward “bells & whistles” look, but they are knowledgeable & compassionate for the animals in their care.
