How to Save Money at Green Dog Dental and Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I found Green Dog online when I was told by my vet to pursue non-anesthetic dental care after a 3 year check up. It was easy to schedule an appointment online. I looked on a Friday and was able to get my dog in for Monday afternoon! The team was very responsive and upfront about expectations. Pricing was transparent and I was able to consent to everything I felt comfortable agreeing to. Parking in the lot was tricky by there were plenty of meters nearby. They did an excellent job explaining the condition of my dog’s teeth and they were so clean after the treatment. His breath also was SIGNIFICANTLY better. I definitely recommend!

I can’t say enough good things about Green Dog and their incredible team! My golden retriever, Chief, needed all the necessary paperwork and health checks to ensure a smooth trip to Europe, and they made the entire process seamless and stress-free. From the moment we walked in, they treated Chief with so much care and attention. They explained every step of the process, handled all the details with expertise, and made sure we had everything we needed for international travel. Their professionalism and dedication were evident at every stage, and their love for animals truly shines through. Thanks to Green Dog, Chief’s trip to Europe went off without a hitch. If you’re looking for a vet who genuinely cares and goes above and beyond, I highly recommend them!

We’ve been clients at Green Dog since it was solely just a mobile pet truck run by Dr. Garcia , and the way they’ve expanded over the past decade alone has been remarkable. The new full service facility on Aetna street is nothing short of incredible - it’s beautiful and spacious, and staffed with the best people around. Whenever we take our dog and cat there, we know we’re in good hands, and quite often they fit us in same day, which is such a life saver! If you live in the area, make them your go-to for animal care, you will not be disappointed!

Amazing. My dog had a Monday morning appointment and all in all the overall experience was so much better than I expected. The clinic sends forms a day or so prior to your appointment to let you know what to expect, as well as your dog's behavior and other necessary medical tidbits they need to ask of you. Instructions were easy to follow and the location wasn't far from my house at all, it's central to Sherman Oaks right off of Ventura Blvd. Be aware that they are located on the second floor of the strip mall, as I had taken a minute to figure it out when we first arrived. Upon arrival, you're immediately greeted by the staff and once ready put into one of their waiting rooms to go over the preliminary paperwork you sent prior to go over any additional details. The room was warm, spacious and inviting! After the pre-evaluation, they took my pet to the back clinic for the exam and said they would call within an hour or so to let me know if they will proceed with the cleaning (they must determine first if your pet is the right candidate for non-anesthetic cleaning. And the exam is about $85). Once they determine that, they immediately contact you to say they've started the cleaning, then just as quickly, your pet is available for pickup. And sure enough, it a bit over an hour for the whole event. When you arrive, you're back in a room to go over details with the vet, then you checkout and get your furry friend back with teeth nice and clean! I much prefer this method over standard procedure of having to fully sedate your pet in order for their teeth to be cleaned. So many complication IMO especially for older pets. Found a new spot!
