How to Save Money at TAGS Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been taking my dog to Little Paws in Canyon Country for many many years. When they recently changed their policy of making appts, after the 3rd visit, I’d had enough of waiting 2 or 3 hours to see the vet just to get my dog an allergy shot. So I decided to give Tags a try. I did have to wait….all of 20 mins. How refreshing. Dr Donahue is friendly and genuinely cares. I will be a regular from now on.

I am surprised TAGS doesn't have 5 stars. My experience is that this vet and clinic truly care about their patients. Don't be fooled by the low cost. The visits we have had with our cats have been handled with expertise and compassion. Their vaccination, medicine and specialty food prices are the lowest I've seen. The vet is like a doctor Dolittle who take the time with each animal to create as stress free interaction as possible. While they don't do x-rays and surgeries- (they are like an animal urgent care) the vet provides a wide range of services and will advise when the scope of care needed goes beyond what TAGS is able to offer. This clinic is always my first choice whenever I have a sick animal in my care.

Most honest veterinary service I’ve ever come across. People that care about the truth and doing what’s best for the pet and you. Fantastic pricing and honest evaluation. Dental and minor surgery rates are the best around too. Can’t say enough good things about Tags.

I just wanted to take the time to come on here and leave a little something for everyone to see about Dr Nastro. My 2 year pit bull went into surgery to get neutered and unfortunately swelled up really bad and wasn’t looking to good. Reached out to the Dr at 9pm that same night got a reply at midnight which was more than appreciated considering it was late at night… To top it all off he came on his day off an hour away from TAGS to come take my pit bull in and perform another small like surgery to help his swelling and blood clots. I am writing this as he works on my pup so I don’t have an outcome yet but figured you guys would be able to see this and know that if you bring your animal here he/she are being taken care of and he takes it very serious whether it is life threatening or not. . I don’t think anyone in this valley at any other vet would have done this or would have even replied to me. I can’t thank Dr Nastro enough for what he has done in the last 24 hours to help me feel comfortable with him treating my dog.

Took my dog in for a dog bite at a vet yesterday by Canyon Country and they gave an estimate of over $2700 low and high of $3100. Inquired with Dr Nastro and he said to bring him over this morning and only charged $375. This place is very reasonable and will not take advantage of you. They work efficiently and will not charge you an arm and a leg. Thank you for what you do and pls continue to serve our community with the utmost integrity . We need more vets like you.
