How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had to bring our 10 year old schnauzer mix because he wouldn’t put weight on his left front paw. Got us in and out quick and did as little testing as necessary, no over billing. Dr Tran is so nice and I’m so glad we started coming here from ACE, so much cheaper!

I was looking for a good Veterinarian for my dog near my home. I found the Vetco Total Care in Torrance, but it was hard to get an appointment. I searched an another Vetco near my home and finally, I found Total Care in San Pedro. I could get an appointment in a couple of days. When I drove to San Pedro, it didn't take a long time from my home. It took only 20 minutes to the clinic. My dog and I arrived at the clinic half an hour early. The parking lot was big and It was empty. Vetco Total Care Clinic was inside the Petco store. We walked around the Petco store. I wanted to buy a treat for my dog. And my dog knew what kinds of treats he liked. Usually, he sniffed his favorite treats. He stopped in front of the shelf. I grabbed his treats and paid for them at the cashier. Then, we walked to the clinic. There was a lady who was in the front office. She was friendly & polite. We didn't have to wait a long time to see the Veterinarian. And I met a young Veterinarian who was kind to my dog. She was caring and professional. She examined my dog very carefully and she said that he looked healthy. And she recommended that my dog needed a teeth cleaning. I wanted my dog to have a blood test. She recommended having a complete blood test. My dog was scared to have a blood test. One technician came to us & she held my dog gently then, she took him inside. I worried about him. I knew that he was scared of needles. Later, my dog came out, but he didn't seem scared. The technician said that she didn't have any problems with the blood test. I appraised him and I gave him a chicken jerkey for the treat. I would recommend Vetco Total Care at San Pedro clinic. If you are pet parents, you care about your dog. And you want to take him to the clinic where the staff cares about your dog and treat him gently.

**READ** This office is the most unprofessional veterinary office I have ever been to my whole entire life. My mother is a physician. I have never been treated with so much disrespect from the staff. Also waited one hour for my appointment. they truly do not care about your pets and just want to waste your time and get your money. Please do me a huge favor everybody and DO NOT come here. There is much better places out there that will truly care for your pets. Here is not the place. Thank you

this was our first visit and I was very impressed. I didn't expect the level of care from a vet located inside of a Petco but they exceeded my expectations so we will be coming back and I will bring my other pets as well.

Last visit Sunday June18,2023 the traveling Vet did not accommodate us because we’re not on the appt list I called June 17, the Mgr said it’s okay just come early which we arrived 9:15 am and waited till 19 am when it’s open but unfortunately the Lady in charge is so MEAN that pushed us away even though we waited for long hours and very few dogs were inside. Sad Day for me. I missed my Church service just to attend to my dog needs but was not accommodated
