How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Banfield Pet Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

I was at petsmart for kibble for the dogs. Didn't need the vet - thank God! Found kibble for $15 so I was pretty happy about that after seeing it pric3d at 25 to over $60! Are they trying to let only rich folks have pets now?? Pretty soon I won't be able to afford dog or cat food. What's the world coming to?!?

Most of the time, this has been a good pet hospital. Once in a while, the receptionists could be pretty rude and careless with bad attitude. They would let you keep waiting until you missed your assigned appointment while answering the phone. The grooming service in the same facility has been the same situation. It's really great if you know who to ask for. Otherwise, your pet might be returned with some unfinished jobs. You can only get that if you are careful and knowing what's supposed to be included. September 2019 updates: We’ve recently visited the Banfield hospital again. The receptionists have been very helpful, friendly and courteous. This is such an impressive improvement since our previous visits! Kudos to the personnel. We appreciated it greatly. However, I did notice the front door areas have been very filthy with trash and urine stains (dry and wet). It’s not kept clean in my recent visits. See the attached pictures. Hopefully they can clean up frequently.

They never have appointments in San Leandro. You will need to book a month in advance most of the time. They don't always answer the phone during business hours either. When they do answer, they are friendly.

Impossible to get an appointment when you need it. No Appointments until a month from whe you actually need them. Okay service just hope you never need to get in quickly. The lack of appointments making me question whether their wellness plans are worth it because I am paying so much so to never have my pet seen.

The office in San Leandro has not been open on Fridays Saturdays or Sundays for at least 2 months. Other days of the week it is unpredictable if they will be open. If you need them to do a nail trim you have to call every day and find out their hours for that day. I feel that the inability to get an appointment soon damaged my dog's health
