How to Save Money at Broadway Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am very fortunate to live just down the street from one of the best Vet hospitals I have ever been to. Dr. Varon and his staff have handled several surgeries and complicated treatments for my cats and dogs. Their prices are fair and scheduling is usually pretty painless. Definitely recommend.

Doc Sam is awesome. He totally saved our little English Bulldog puppy, she would not be here without him. Other vets made hints of putting her down, quality of life, et al. But Doc Sam took one look at her and knew exactly what to do to help her. And she is now a thriving, energetic, very athletic, and stubborn Bulldog. We can’t say enough about how wonderful we feel Doc Sam is and how happy we are that we found him. Thank you thank you thank you Doctor Sam.

my 3 pups all ate raisins late on a Friday evening the next morning one of my girls still wasn’t feeling well after being in the er the night before, I reached out to Dr. Varon and he worked Sugar into his schedule so he could check her out. His entire staff was warm and welcoming and was more than willing to help me with my sweet girl. I am so grateful for him and his team. Wrote my first review (above) 3 years ago and I'm coming back to edit it now. I'm crying ugly tears writing this but I truly want everyone to know how wonderful this team is. Dr. Sam rescued my pup Sugar last summer when she decided what looked like a mango pit. (If you don't notice my dogs are always eating things they shouldn't.) She would have died without the emergency surgery he performed. They cared for my pup pumpkin when she had puppies, then again after she and I were attacked by a dog leaving her with an abscess. They've treated ear infections, yeasty toes, and given routine vaccines. Now, my pup Honey has cancer, it's very aggressive and though Dr. Tyler tried to remove it, it was unfortunately too bad. My Honey girl is still with me right now but the days are very numbered and it's been a lot of back and forth on when I have to make the decision to say goodbye. It has been an emotional roller coaster and Dr. Tyler has been more than willing to answer questions, even outside of business hours. The staff has been very gentle and caring. They've been patient and accommodating with me as I navigate through this process with my sweet girl to ensure we both are comfortable. I cannot recommend Dr. Sam, Dr. Tyler, and Dr. Sasha enough. I also cannot be more thankful to each vet tech and administration in the office. If there are angels on earth y'all are them! If you're reading this and you're in need of a vet, for your new puppy, your pup who's just acting a bit off, your pup who needs an emergency surgery, your baby needing palliative care, or the one transitioning out of this life...please book your appointment with this office. You will not regret it.

Finally! I feel blessed to have found this place! They were originally recommended for a difficult surgery that my regular vet couldn't do, but we've stayed here. Spectacularly skilled vets (no, seriously, super smart, great listeners, talented surgeons, and very up to date on new treatments), compassionate staff, very reasonable prices. The covid situation is handled fairly well. You call from your car and they come to you to collect your pet. It does mean the phone can get backed up a bit but the care they give more than makes up for an occasional inconvenience. They were THE MOST sensitive when we had to euthanize my old lady and made the sweetest presentation with her ashes. I've tried many vets and none were good at everything and many charge SO MUCH. These guys really do check all the boxes and I couldn't be happier (same with the animals). Thank you Broadway Veterinary Hospital!

This place is a bit shady when it comes to price. They are not transparent with their pricing. When I asked what the rate is to get my cat neutered the representative said it varies... Seriously? On what? You must know an estimate for a procedure that is done over and over again. So I'm just supposed to make a blind appointment and hope it meets my budget? Reading from other reviews this place seems money hungry.
