How to Save on Veterinary Costs at MarQueen Pet Emergency & Specialty
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

It has taken me a few months to be able to write this. Every time I started to write, I couldn't continue through the tears. In December, my sweet 7-year-old Golden, Addie, was diagnosed with severe pulmonary edema by her primary vet. This hit us out of nowhere because, despite being so sick, she, being the sweet girl that she was, was still doing everything she could to please us and love on us. Even though it was Christmas time and they were very busy, we were able to schedule an appointment with Marqueen for the next day (Christmas Eve) to see if we could pull some of the fluid off and make things easier for her. We were hoping to have some time. During her initial exam, she was all loves and tail wags for the tech and the vet. She didn’t act like she was super ill. Typical Addie. She only wanted to love on her new friends. Dr. McDonald pulled her back for a scan and a more thorough check. When she brought her back in, by the look on her face, I just knew. She had to give me the news that Addie was decompensating and was in the process of dying. We likely had hours. Despite her tail wags and eager disposition, her body was giving out on her. We discussed our options, and we decided together to let her go peacefully before she really started to struggle. Dr. McDonald and the Marqueen team allowed me to go home quickly to get our other dog, my husband, and our daughter so everyone could say goodbye. They watched over her while I was gone. Upon our return, they allowed us all the time we needed to love on her just as she had loved on us for seven years. When it was time, I laid down on the floor, big-spooned my sweet girl, and told her how much we loved her. I thanked her for being the amazing girl that she was. Dr. McDonald walked us through the entire process. She had a calm voice and was so soothing to us, and to Addie. We were allowed to spend as much time as we needed with her after she passed. Not once did we feel rushed. We were even able to bring our other dog in to say goodbye. While it was an absolutely devastating time, I can’t say enough about the compassion that the Marqueen staff provided to us that day. I was able to leave knowing we made the best decision for our Addie girl, and that her passing was as smooth and peaceful as we could provide. Thank you, Dr. McDonald. I hope you see this, because I have thought of you so much since that day and truly appreciate how warm and kind you were. Thank you for being so... human. Addie was an amazing girl, and she deserved to have a vet just as amazing to help her through her final steps toward the rainbow bridge.

What can I say? Vet Trevor diagnosed my dog with an ultra sound and blood tests and saved my boy, who had Pancreatitis. Stayed over 2 nights, 3 shots of Panoquell, and a very attentive staff. We were allowed to come visit anytime. This place is pricey, but what 24-hour vet is cheap? The staff knows to check vitals on any incoming pet immediately, and then discusses needed treatment. Thanks Trevor and caring staff. You saved our boy. Hopefully we don't have to come see you again, but if it is needed, I trust this is the place we will return for help.

Dr. Erica Moore, Taylor, and the rest of the MarQueen team have been incredibly supportive and empathetic throughout our journey with our beloved dog, Sierra. We were truly blessed to have such a compassionate and dedicated team helping her through her battle with high-grade lymphoma. Losing Sierra has been deeply painful—life just isn't the same without our fur baby. But knowing she was cared for by people who truly loved her brings us comfort. Sierra absolutely adored everyone at MarQueen. She would bark with excitement all the way to the hospital, then rush straight to the door, eager to greet the staff and get treats from her friends inside. She had a way of lighting up every room she entered, wagging her entire body just to capture someone’s attention. We are so grateful for the extra time we had with her, and it means the world to us that you were a part of her life—and ours. Thank you for everything.

Thank You, MarQueen Team Our boy Loki came to MarQueen with an open wound that needed stitches. We had tried to get him in with our local vet, but they weren’t able to accommodate us. So we made the trip out from Nevada City, hoping someone could help. When we arrived, the receptionist immediately recognized that Loki was in pain and got him triaged so he could receive pain medication right away. The team moved quickly to get him into surgery and took such great care of him. We are so grateful for the attention and compassion you gave our boy — and for acting fast when he needed it most. Thank you to the receptionist who saw his pain and spoke up for him. Thank you to the whole MarQueen team for taking care of him. We appreciate you more than words can say.

My dog Cruella was seen here tonight by Dr. Pacheco. He was so kind and easy to talk to. I can’t remember the techs name but she was also very kind and very helpful. Both of them explained things well and took great care of my girl. They presented treatment plans step by step and it was a seamless process. Honestly everyone in there was wonderful. The front staff were also very sweet. Over all a great experience in a stressful time.
