How to Save Money at Rialto Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

UPDATE - My second visit (5 weeks after my first visit) was in their newly opened separate building only for cats. See my new photos. Once again I was impressed with the way Dr. Juarez and the vet tech handled my two cats, especially my white cat who is usually afraid of strangers. I was amazed that he sat very still during and after his exam, and allowed the vet tech to cuddle him! FIRST VISIT: My initial visit here in search of a new vet for my 12 and 15 yr old cats left a very positive impression. This is their new building - very clean, modern, comfortable, and accommodating with separate waiting areas for dogs and cats. Soon (June or July) they will open a separate building for cats. Every staff member that my daughter and I interacted with (from phone appointment to reception, to 2 vet techs, to Dr. Juarez) were friendly, compassionate, and so very patient, considering all of the questions we had about our cats, their services in general, and their protocols. Dr. Juarez called the very next day with results of bloodwork and urine analysis. She relayed alternative procedures, with written estimates, for Ben's two conditions. We will definitely be taking the cats here from now on. PS - It's sad, but I don't know what happened to my previous vet of 12 years. Rialto Animal Hospital looks like an excellent replacement. My only recommendation is that they invest in automatic door openers.

We always are treated so well here at RAH! I’ve used them several times, for surgeries, yearly appointments and urgent care and I’m always amazed by the kindness and thoroughness of the staff! We had our yearly a few weeks back and they wanted to follow-up on one of our pups ears because it was red. We went in today to finish boosting their vaccines and the vet was so kind to knock off the check-up charge because she wanted to just make sure our pup was fine! This is our forever animal hospital and we won’t ever stop coming here. Thank you for taking care of our pups like they’re your own! ❤️

Hands down great place, definitely will be bringing my English bulldog bruiser back. Great service , extremely friendly and helpful staff that's went out of their way to help us, when we thought we were out of options with my fur baby and they. Got a next day appointment and did the procedure the same day and walked us through the procedure, showed us around, and great prices. I will be recommending to my friends and family to bring their fur babies here.

Dr Juarez, Shannon is among the BEST Vet Doctor’s at this Animal Hospital. I can’t express how lucky we are to have found her. She listens to every concern we had about our fur baby & gives advice on what the best course of treatment that will be for my fur baby (Lola Robben). I had another vet located in Fontana but I feel the doctor there that was “treating” her was extremely dismissive to my concerns and always would brush it off and say it was due to her old age (Lola is 11 Years old Jack Russell Mix with Chi) because of Doctor Shannon I truly feel in my heart that she has given Lola more years with us & with the medications she will live & have a better comfortable life. Thank You Doctor Shannon -Ethan Robben & Lola

Today we had the hardest decision to put our son 9 yrs. old german shepher down. Our son was unable to be there next to his best friend due to him being deployed. Diesel was a big part of our family. Our family wants to thank the entire staff of the Rialto Animal Hospital. Specially Dr. Lau and Erick. You truly did your best and effort to save our boy. And the show of compassion when our boy took his last breath. Thank you for everything. The Rodriguez Family
