How to Save Money at Day Creek Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We took our dog in and they told us she has cancer and that she doesn’t have much longer..so we brought her home and have been spoiling her because she only had a couple of months left..after 4 months We decided to take her to another vet to have her checked. While yes, she does have cancer and this vet took the time to explain things to us and to go out of their way to let us know that we do have options and there so much we can do to preserve her life and she can be with us for at least another year. There was no way that the doctors at Day Creek or any vet hospital could have known if her cancer was as aggressive as they had told us it was..without removing the whole tumor and having it tested! Day creek only did a needle aspersions My husband said the last time he took her to Day Creek that they weren’t caring at all and he felt it was because she’s a pit bull! Our new vet took the time to call us answer all our questions and get us the number for oncology and gave us a menu that will help her cancer and reduce the swelling.. I DO NOT RECOMMEND DAY CREEK IF YOU HAVE A PIT BULL!

I have been taking my dog Iris here for about 2 years now and I love the staff. Everyone is extremely nice and understanding. They helped me out a lot with trying to find solutions to pay for my dog's procedure. Overall, I love it and I will continue taking my dog here.

Loved this place the first few times I went but have had nothing but problems the past few months. Currently going on a month of back and forth communication for medication because of laziness. The first script didn't have half the information filled out. Second attempt didn't have the refill quantity filled out still(which is 0). Now the third party we had to contact to get the prescription is canceling the order because they haven't heard from Day Creek to confirm the prescription. Not disputed, not unavailable, simply ignoring communication. After calling to emphasize the problem, we were told the doctor is out today... so we're going to have to start all over. Mistakes happen, but this is a complete lack of effort.

Booker T, my 12 month 94lbs reactive to people and other animals cane corso fur baby has the terrible misfortune to have cherry eye. Right now I think I am WAY more bothered by it than he is because I have become "that mom" that worriedly calls about everything. The ENTIRE staff and doctors have literally gone out of their way to be accommodating to my numerous text messages and our office visits. At our first visit they understood Booker's reactivity and graciously cleared the lobby of people and pets so we could walk in, weigh him and go straight into the exam room. At our next visit, now this is what I thought was A-MAZING..., the doctor and staff actually came outside of the hospital, where Booker was more comfortable, to perform his initial exam. The staff helped to distract him while the doctor did a quick assessment. They then allowed him to wait in my jeep where they gave him a sedative to help calm him so he could come into the clinic and have his blood drawn for labs for his upcoming surgery. I had NO idea that the sedative would completely make him loose the ability to stand or lift his head. It was tough to see him on the exam floor with his multiple useless attempts to stand. Soooo again, they exercised grace and compassion and allowed us to take him back into my jeep, where he was more familiar with the environment, to wait until the sedative wore off. The vet tech came out and checked on him several times to make certain he was okay. And... the doctor came outside to my jeep to exam him once more before clearing him to go home. I know this is a loooong review, but, I wanted to share how accommodating this animal hospital team is. Would I recommend them to family, friends, and the Google community... Absolutely YES, I would.

Great place to take your pets. The vet here is very loving to animals. All of our pets and rescues love him. I had to put my 21 year old golden cocker spaniel to sleep and he was very caring and loving towards my special pup.
