How to Save Money at Midland Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot thank Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Scheibel enough for the incredible care they provided for my cat, Charlie. From the very beginning, Dr. Scheibel made me feel completely at ease during Charlie’s initial ultrasound consult, explaining everything clearly, being warm and approachable, and making a stressful situation so much more manageable. When it came time for the next steps, Dr. Nguyen was absolutely amazing. She worked closely with the radiologist to review Charlie’s ultrasound and took extra time to listen to every question and concern I had about his treatment plan. Her compassion and dedication were truly above and beyond anything I expected. Dr. Nguyen even went as far as calling Hill’s Prescription Diet directly to ask about safe food options Charlie could eat on an HP diet. She spent so much time researching, calling, and advising me, and it meant the world to feel that level of support. Sadly, Charlie has since crossed the Rainbow Bridge. In the middle of my heartbreak, Dr. Nguyen personally called me to offer comfort, reassure me that I did everything I could, and gently ask if there was anything she could do for me. That kindness is something I will never forget. I have five other cats, and after this experience, I feel completely confident in entrusting their care to this team. Their compassion, skill, and genuine dedication to helping our fur babies feel better are unmatched. Midland Animal Hospital truly has two exceptional doctors in Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Scheibel.

I have a 5 old chihuahua. Her name is Lovey. I took to the vet because she was still scooting and limping on her r/right leg. I was recommend by my therapist to take Lovey to Midland Animal Clinic to get check. When we arrived to Midland Animal Clinic the staff were very nice and friendly to Lovey and myself. When we saw the doctor the doctor made Lovey fill really comfortable. So the doctor did xays on her leg. We found out that she had a tear on her ligament. The doctor recommend to do laser therapy on her leg to ease the pain that she has. She also stated that she would need to have surgery. I will recommend my friends and family to this vet. They are really great with the animals. Thank You Midland Animal Clinic.

I love bringing my dog to Midland Animal Clinic. I have been bringing my pets to see Dr. Carrier there for at least 15 years. Dr. Carrier is the best, she discussed everything with me sand explains what is going on. She is so empathetic and undoubtedly loves what she does. She always calls me promptly with lab results or just answers to questions I may have. She is wonderful and has the patience of a saint.i can’t say enough about her. She has helped me with my pets when we went through a depressing time. Hannah was working with her on the day I brought my dog into the clinic, a lovely young lady. She is very pleasant and personable. She listened intently to what I was relating to her about my dog. She was very patient and loving with my dog. She obviously loves what she does. Both Dr. Carrier and Hannah are great assets to the clinic.
