How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Antelope Valley Animal Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

There are not enough positive words to describe this Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Dave is amazing as is Dr. Lennox. Honestly, all the vets are incredible. I never feel pressured for more than my pets need. The front office team and the vet techs are friendly and efficient. I feel thoroughly listened to and taken care of. I always know my animals are reviewing the highest quality of care without being nickel and dimed to death. I wish I could give 100 stars because that is exactly what Antelope Valley Animal Hospital deserves!

Today was supposed to be my first visit with Dr Dave. I was very happy and excited to be there. Until everything turned upside down. I brought my dog in for a teeth cleaning. I was the one that asked for blood work, they didn't say he should have it. It was a good thing I did too. (More on that later) I met and talked to Dr Dave and he checked my dog. He said he was all good. I signed the forms for anesthesia and then the girl said that the cost was more than I was quoted and I asked why. I said I called and made my appt the same day and came in within 2 or 3 weeks. Not too much later. She said prices went up since. I said you are going to raise my quoted price from the time I made my appt until I got here within a couple of weeks? That's bad business. I couldn't believe it. They wanted to check with the scheduler but she wasn't in. None of that should have mattered. They should stick to the quoted price but had a huge problem with doing that. Then on my way out the door, Dr Dave tells me, You know, there is always a risk with anesthesia!. I took that as a personal threat that I might not get my pet back! Of course I know that!. It was his 3rd teeth cleaning and I already have signed the forms re: anesthesia risks plus I am an educated person who is aware of those risks in a human and pets! I turned right around and took my pet home with me. Dr Dave sucks! The blood work they took, my dog had elevated blood work, RBC, HGB, HCT, CRE, GLU and very low MON. Were they going to clean his teeth without telling me about this? Well, I wouldn't put it past them! Will never return!!

We accepted a Frosted Funding case for a client of Antelope Valley Animal Hospital who is experiencing financial hardship to help her cover the removal of a bladder stone. We called this hospital to pay for the surgery and the receptionist stated that they do not accept credit cards over the phone. I asked for a link to pay online, and she said they do not do that either. They explained that you must pay for care at the front desk in order for them to accept payment because they are "old school." I explained that our organization is in San Diego, and like most organizations that fund care, need to pay the hospital directly. The receptionist said that this has been their policy "for years" almost braggadociously. I explained to her that her client would not be able to afford surgery without this payment, and that I was sure the doctor who owned the hospital would want this money for his services. Surely a receptionist who felt she was valiantly upholding a long withstanding hospital policy was not seeing the business end of this or the perspective of the client. I asked to speak directly to the Hospital Manager or doctor. She put me on hold and said she asked the doctor who owns the practice, and that they would not find a way to accept this payment. Just in case they were really not understanding what I was saying, I emphasized one last time, "You understand that you are declining a payment method for this procedure from our organization that your client does not have? This means you will not get the money..." The receptionist exclaimed, "I guess not!" Mmmmkay. I fear for the position that this hospital is putting their client in when she picks up her dog from surgery and cannot cover the cost of surgery.
