How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Porter Veterinary Center

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Experience

Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.

Emergency Care Procedures

It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.

Communication Preferences

Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.

Breed Specific Health Considerations

Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.

Hope this place never opens again. Started going here regularly years ago and it was affordable and decent, but then it got steadily worse. Went from costing around $600 to have my dogs' teeth cleaned to $2000 in the span of two years. Last time we went, we pointed out the dog had a little growth on his side. Really just a little bump smaller than a pea. They said they would remove it during the tooth cleaning since he would be under. They didn't, and when I pointed it out, they said they forgot and it would cost another $2k to have ANOTHER surgery. I obviously did not have another $2k after paying a total of $6k to have all three dogs teeth cleaned. And what a surprise! That growth turned into a full blown gigantic tumor that killed my dog. So thanks, team at Porter Pet. Brilliant work. Hope none of you ever work in any form of healthcare again. Actually, hope none of you ever work again period. Lick pavement for all I care.

I just want to thank the staff at PVC! Oso was so nervous for his nailtrim but Morgan and Robert? (Dont recall his name) made oso so comfortable. My oso is usually such an anxious wiggle worm but they gave him so much time and space that he didn't even cry. Thank you to Julianna who booked my appointment last min (I guess they just opened). But thank you all and I'm happy I found a better vet. Hello Dr. Ryan!

I’ve been taking my pug to Porter Pet Hospital for the past year and will continue doing so. The staff are very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. Annie is the best! Most importantly they tend to my pug very well. When I had to make frequent visits, he would oblige to be walked by an aide without any hesitation (lol). Highly recommend their services!

They were able to see us as a walk-in and I couldn’t be more thankful. In the morning our dog was attacked by another dog in our apartment complex, and although there was no serious medical emergency required, we still wanted to take our pup in as soon as possible to make sure nothing else was wrong. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, and the vet that saw our pup was very informative to us and assured us our dog would be okay. It was definitely a very stressful day but this pet hospital helped put us at ease and reduced our worries. We just recently moved to this area so I believe this will be our new vet for regular checkups. They are also affordable and not too expensive. Would definitely recommend.
