How to Save Money at Rise Pet Health - Emergency and Specialty Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Thank you Dr.Shepard and the team. During the saddest and stressful moment of losing my Angel Misha. They prepared me gave me comfort put my pain at ease. Hope this place never changes. The environment and surrounding feels like part of Heaven. It was the first time my Dogs were not scared to walk into a vet hospital. They didn’t overcharge with unneeded services. Most important they did what’s best For my Misha 🙏🏼 thank you for the comforting heartwarming card you sent to my Home felt like Misha is at peace

We've been going to Rise Pet Health for our senior Pomeranian mix named Boy since they opened (July 2023), but we've been a patient of Dr. Heller's since Boy got his stage 4 adenocarcinoma diagnosis in December of 2022. It's a blessing to have a long-term relationship with an oncologist because that means the cancer is responding to treatment. Dr. Heller and his team (especially Crystal!) are excellent with their communication - emails over weekends, answering our many questions, and just taking the time to get to know us. The quality of care is the reason we chose to follow Dr. Heller from his previous practice and we hope that we get the chance to keep coming to him and the Rise team. Dr. Heller is professional, knowledgeable, but most of all he is kind. He has given us more time with Boy and we truly can't thank him enough. The office itself is gorgeous, they make you feel very comfortable in a situation where you commonly wouldn't (and they have the sweetest dog photography in the lobby!) The front desk staff are all very kind and always willing to help.

In the world of veterinary medicine it would be hard to find a place as caring, comforting and competent as Rise Pet Health. Our experience is with oncology and Dr. Heller. While no one ever wants to navigate the cancer journey with a beloved four-legged family member, Dr. Heller‘s expertise and humanity have given us peace of mind, knowing that he has pursued every available tool to give us much more quality time than we ever expected. He is responsive and communicative, technically competent and genuinely kind. The entire staff is friendly and caring. The environment is beautiful and calming. But most importantly, our experience is that Rise Pet Health puts pets and their people first.

This place is GORGEOUS! Brand new everything with the best of the best! Tara, the vet on call at 3 am was AMAZING!! She was so knowledgeable, professional, compassionate and caring. We truly appreciate the care she gave to our beloved kitty, Ollie who was rushed in the middle of the night due to open mouth breathing. He has asthma that was normally well controlled. He didn’t even need a steroid shot over 9 months until about 10 days ago when he started coughing daily. He was having a flare up but never had open mouth breathing until that night so we took him to Rise as fast as we could. The staff was excellent! I’m so thankful this emergency pet hospital had an oxygen chamber. They put him in it immediately which allowed his breathing to improve as quickly as possible. After stabilizing him, the lady who went over the billing and the medication the vet prescribed was great! She was also very kind as well as helpful and made things easy to understand during this stressful and scary incident. Very pleasantly surprised how affordable this state of the art vet actually was. Before at other emergency vets, I felt like I was excessively charged and pressured into paying for extra services I couldn’t afford. Not at this place! Rise was the BEST IN every way! Ollie was given the excellent care and we couldn’t be more thankful! My husband and I highly recommend Rise and would consider the emergency vet to be best not only in Orange County but the best we’ve ever been to…..

I cannot say enough about how amazing this place is! I never imagined that a facility of this high standard existed for animals. It was as good as the best hospital for humans I've been to. The staff is extremely kind and compassionate that they make a difficult process as smooth as possible. Doctor Kelly Shmitz was very knowledgeable, and we had complete confidence in her. Her valuable advice saved us a tremendous amount of money when they could have easily made us spend all that extra money on care that would have made little to no difference. The administrator Kevin was so thoughtful, that he went out of his way to offer us a souvenir. Facility is kept immaculate. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to provide the best care for their furry friends.
