How to Save Money at Precision Veterinary Surgery

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had an amazing experience here at Precision Veterinary Surgery! My little senior dog needed to have multiple tumors removed and my vet was charging us more that we were hoping. So I found this place and spoke with Angie Jimenez who was so professional and knowledgeable that I knew I found the right place. We went for a consultation and both Dr Greco and Dr Montez met with us and we’re fantastic. The surgery went great and by two weeks she’s was cleared and was acting like a puppy again. We will definitely be recommending to family and friends!

Best small owned hospital and best prices unlike corporate vet hospitals!!! My dog, Gracie, had a mass growing rapidly. PVS took in Gracie that same week for a consultation. Dr. Montel wanted to see what kind of mass was growing on her, so he did a sedated biopsy that same day on Gracie. The results came back 5 days later as an aggressive tumor. Both Dr. Montel and Dr. Greco talked me through all the options and their recommendations to treat this cancer on my baby. They did not rush my decision and the next day I decided to do surgery to remove the mass on her jaw. I LOVED how they did not outrageously quote me for the surgery which included the exam, medications, and post surgery recheck! Great prices unlike corporate animal hospitals and other vet surgery specialists in orange county! The surgery performed on Gracie was a bilateral mandibulectomy aka remove the tip of her jaw because the mass had taken over that part. From start to finish the staff was very attentive and sweet to both Gracie and I. They even sent a picture of her right before surgery. Dr. Greco and Dr. Montel did an amazing job with the surgery. The next day Gracie was acting normal and already had an appetite. Her sutures are healing really well. PVS has even checked up on her from time to time to see how she was doing. Amazing staff, amazing doctors, amazing hospital! They are in the same building as Healing Hearts emergency too if you get lost!

Dr. Greco and his team are caring, friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. One of my dogs was hit by a car and had a broken front leg, and we were referred to Precision Vet by our primary vet. I couldn't be happier with how everything has gone, and we are only about halfway through the recovery process. They truly care about the well-being of my furbaby and even ask how I'm doing with everything. I highly recommend Precision Vet Surgery!

Surgeon is super knowledgeable. I know other vets and used them to throw some hard questions at him and he knew his stuff. Prices are at the industry standard and you can book and complete surgery quickly

I am so glad to have found Dr. Greco and his team! I took my dog to another vet because of a mass and they referred me out to dermatology. I knew she needed to see a surgical specialist so I called Precision Vet and they were able to get me in for a consultation that same week. The next day my dog had surgery to remove the mass since it was growing. Turns out it was cancer! Dr. Greco and Dr. Montel did a great job on my dog’s surgery. She is acting like nothing happened to her. Angie, Gizelle, and Sydney were the great to talk to and took the best care of my dog. 10/10 I recommend this place for their professionalism, cleanliness, hospitality, and genuine love for the patients.
