How to Save Money at VCA Village Park Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We’ve had a fantastic experience with this veterinary office! The entire team is incredibly responsive and communicative—you can really tell they care deeply about the health and well-being of your pet. We had our English Bulldog neutered here, and they took such great care of him throughout the entire process. The facility is clean, spacious, and welcoming. We also joined the Care Club, which has already proven to be well worth it, especially for those unexpected visits. Highly recommend to any pet parent looking for compassionate, high-quality veterinary care!

Great experience with this animal hospital. They have fit in appointments for our dog in less than 24 hours which we really appreciate. Easy to get prescriptions without wait in the office. Highly recommend.

COVID UPDATE The Hospital is open and seeing clients, but you can not go in. You check in from the curb and someone comes out and takes your pet inside while you wait in the parking lot. That can be rough when it's 108 or so, but it is the way they are doing it. Usually the vet who sees your pet will call you on your cell phone to discuss the issues. I can't say that feels like personal service, but hey it is a strange time. To check out the receptionist calls and takes your credit card information, or someone comes out with a portable reader and takes the information, then an assistant brings your pet to your car. They want you to bring your pet with no collar or leash. On a positive note, we have started having our Golden bathed there with Jared and he is really good. Jared actually brings your pet down to you, and as I said, we have been very very pleased with his work. Saw Dr Bradshaw and was impressed with her. Through exam, personable manner and she didn’t try to squeeze every dollar out of us before we left. Had a sense for our dogs anxiety, but real made sure she had checked him well. Waiting room is comfy.

I am a seasonal RV'r in the area. This clinic helped my old dog with her list of old dog things. Always compassionate. They give you a price list before treatment which I appreciated. We were into the office almost 7 times in 6 months. They gave us room, compassion and time. I am grateful to them for giving my family member the last bit if quality of life.

This animal clinic is great!!! Tonight we came home to find that my daughters cat had a fish hook in her mouth! Naturally we thought the worst, but it looked a lot worse than what it really was. The staff was super friendly as was the Dr. She was really nice and quick too! It is so nice to have a place here in the cove with convenient hours! A big thank you to every one at Village park! Although Davis now looks like she has a botched lip injection, lol......... Davis is doing great!
