How to Save Money at Beach-Garfield Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This place is soooo great. So good to me and my dog, Jaco. Unfortunately, Jaco passed away a couple weeks ago. I just wanted to give a shout out to this vet for being such a blessing for Jaco and my family. About two years ago, Jaco was acting weird and, long story short, when I took him in, they found a mass on his spleen. They said I’d have to have it removed and so I spent a day shopping around to see what his best options were. The vet told me confidently, he could do it though. So he did… He gave him a spleenactamy right there at their clinic! I thought I’d have to go somewhere bigger and more expensive but they handled it in house. Unreal! Every time we went back there, Jaco was comfortable and happy to see the staff. So I know they treated him with love and care. It ultimately gave me an extra 2 years with my dog. Not to be so direct or corny but… I love you guys. Thank you so much. I appreciate you and everything you’ve done for us. It’ll be a little while before I get another dog but when I do, this might as well be the only vet in the world. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Beware of coming into this hospital if you want your pet’s condition to get worse! Our dog passed because of this place! Completely outrageous and untrustworthy. I hope Animal Services of Orange County and California State Board to come down here and inspect this place!

Do not take your beloved pets here. An absolutely abhorrent and vile institution with no respect or care for animals or their customers. I took my beloved dog to this location, hoping for the best for my beloved best friend. I was met with blatant mistreatment and disregard for the comfort and care of my dog. When I respectfully vocalized my concerns, I was met with hostility and denial - they were more outraged that I “dare to question their practice” rather than the care of my dog. Would you want to attend a place that cares more for their “image” and “integrity” than the health of your pet? In addition to foul and obscene vet malpractice, the employee I spoke to at the front desk was outwardly prejudiced and racist towards my family and I. As I was interpreting the conversation to a family member who does not speak English, he rudely interrupted us multiple times, rolled his eyes, and bluntly said, “I do not understand what you’re saying, get out.” This institution cannot treat humans nor animals with any respect, what an absolute farce of an establishment. Truly, the crook of all veterinary hospitals. They charged me over $2,000 for their botched treatment. It is obviously clear they do not care about saving animals and only want your money. I’m not sure which friends or family members of theirs they’re paying to leave these positive reviews, but they are just as fabricated as the care they advertise giving to pets. Save yourself the grief and heartache — do not waste your time or money on this nasty establishment.

I believe Google stands as a platform for freedom of speech and these recent reviews speak of the true and terrible experiences of coming here. These negligent people claiming to be “doctors” clearly are inexperienced and care more about their reputation than about pets. So please Google, do not take down these reviews. Myself and many other unsatisfied clients want everyone to be aware of the truth and not come to this horrible institution. Please preserve your pet’s safety and your own money.

The staff and doctors were very compassionate. The doctor gave a complete explanation and options. I have taken different pets here and always had a good experience
