How to Save Money at Hope Veterinary Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Hope veterinary clinic is the best if you care about your pets! Dr. An and entire staff are wonderful! We found out two weeks ago that our seven year old pup had a tumor and within days discovered it was cancerous. Dr. An along with a specialist surgeon due to the complex nature of the location, successfully removed the tumor and nearest lymph node with clean margins and we received the results that she is cancer free with no spread! We knew Obi was in great hands. The compassion and professionalism is always above and beyond!

Dr. Gil is an amazingly knowledgeable vet. He saved my dog from a terrible episode of 3 bacteria that she got at a boarding facility. She coughed for over 2 months but with his treatment she came through and is fine. Highly recommend Adams Pet clinic.

Needed to have my dog checked out due to allergies in her skin, they were very helpful in working out a reasonably solution that didn't cost us a fortune. She is doing much better after 3 days. Staff is helpful, though I wish the doctor would try to seek less expensive treatments to help pet owners that can't afford 600 dollars for 1 visit, fortunately ours was worked out to 280, still, I wish they could be a little more understanding during times like these when money is tight.

Adams Pet Hospital, Huntington Beach, CA Upon receiving a reminder card from the vet, I’d called to make an appointment, and was told (Katrina, 2/3/22, 9:10 AM) that I didn’t need one; just drop by, so that’s what I did today, to get Bravecto and a cytopoint injection for my dog (both skin allergy related). When I arrived the receptionist seemed to have problems finding me in their records, but after a few minutes it became apparent was that the issue was that I didn’t have an appt. I explained the advance call, and what I was told, but was treated with annoyance and suspicion. Finally, after I said that if they couldn’t treat my dog, I could go to another vet, treatment suddenly became doable. They took my dog, gave him the shot and had him back to me in perhaps 90 seconds. Great! Now let’s pay the bill and go home. As I turned to leave the receptionist started to chastise me for not having an appt….again. By this point, I’d had my fill and asked to see the vet. They took me to an exam room, and closed both doors (so no other customers would hear my dissatisfaction). The vet came in and introduced herself as a new owner of just a few weeks She acted sympathetic to my cause, then said she’d talk to the receptionist. I asked her to do it there in front of me (I had been chastised twice by then!), and she suddenly pulled back shaking her head “no”. I said ”so it’s not good to embarrass and employee is it, but it’s OK to embarrass a customer…..twice”, and I walked out. On my way home, I remembered something my adult daughter (another soon-to-be ex-customer) said about their practice that if the vet even looks at a dog (like to administer a shot), it’s a $50 charge, and I noticed my bill was lower than I expected. THAT’s what the problem was – by not having an appt., they lost $50 (90 secs for $50 is a rate of $2,000/hr.!) I get it. What I don’t get is their inability to act like a responsible business, better train (or replace) under-performing staff, and swallow a small loss that’s their fault gracefully, and it was just easier to blame the customer! When you buy a new business, one of the key assets involved is the “good will” of the preexisting customer base, and Adams Vet Hospital just lost my family’s for good!
