How to Save Money at Hillcrest Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My cat had a secondary blockage and Dr. Kaspari and her entire staff were incredible. Apart from being extremely on top of it and thorough, everyone here is so kind and helpful. They are my new favorite vet and highly recommend them! Thank you Hillcrest Pet Hospital for taking care of my baby

Absolutely horrible people! If you care about your pet at all you will stay as far away from this place as possible!! They could not care less about you or your pet because the only thing that matters to them is money! They will overcharge you for anything they can think of. They will not care if your pet is hurt. They will not care if they messed up a procedure and will charge you 100% to redo their mistake. Please if you care about your pet go anywhere else! They are liars, cheats and disgusting people! None are worse than the “doctor” who shouldn’t be allowed near another animal ever again! There is a reason they have appointments available when other vets do not because they are so bad no one wants to go there. Please stay away for your own good!

I'm a long time resident of Montrose and have a veterinarian that I go to on a regular basis but I am really sad that I did not find this place earlier and had brought my dog to this veterinarian sooner. First let me detail my first initial experience here at Hillcrest pet hospital it is August 15th and my dog CASHEW had a severely highly allergic reaction that caused him to sneeze profusely 7 8 9 10 times in a row constantly after he came back from a walk in the park and got his nose where it didn't belong in a shrub. Out of these five veterinarians in my area within a 2 mile radius, Hillcrest was the only one that was willing to take my dog as a walk-in at 9:00 in the morning. Every vet that I visited between 8:00am-8:45am in the morning denied my pet and said the next available appointment was 2 or 3 days out. Mind you, I'm already sad that my dog is suffering and having to deal with this major allergy so I'm already frantic and wanting him not to suffer anymore, I found Hillcrest Pet Hospital on the map and decided to drive in seeing that they take walk-ins. The staff there is phenomenal, they are very attentive and very accommodating and make you feel comfortable once you walk into the door. They listened to my issues about my dog and told me to just relax we'll get the doctor on this ASAP. About waiting for about 10 minutes in the waiting reception room I had got the call in to the doctor so the doctor can examine my dog, and right away, the doctor pointed out various issues with the dog and came out with the remedy list and a few other suggestions to help eleviate his condition. I just want to thank the staff there for accommodating my needs and my dogs needs and thank the doctor there for her service and helping my dog relieve his issue and uncomfortableness. If you're looking for a neighborhood veterinarian with a friendly staff and a doctor who is well knowledgeable in her craft then I suggest you go to Hillcrest Pet hospital, that is going to be my dog's veterinarian from now on! Thank You to the team at HILLCREST PET HOSPITAL!!!

Hillcrest Pet Hospital is the best. Dr. K and her team are so kind and helpful, and they took wonderful care of our cat when she needed a procedure. They are the only office we will take her to, even though it’s an hour from our house (worth the drive for peace of mind)! The the staff is happy, kind and compassionate. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a team that truly loves animals and doesn’t treat customers like a number.

Our regular vet couldn't fit us in for three days. The emergency vet was booked the entire day. Hillcrest saw us almost immediately for an urgent but non emergency. They were kind, professional. Advised cost prior to treatment. Wonderful.
